I would like a few doubts answered before I join the Cult of Cthulhu.
One I have is that it seems to focus a little too much on the hideous and tentacles side. I suppose it isn't very important to me but that it works for some people. However, I think it waste a little bit too much energy on talking and playing about that side instead of actually achieving to bring the things to present.
Another thing I've always had a small problem with, and this for pretty much all religions, is the rituals. I never quite seen the point in them, I know it helps some people with focusing on their goals and staying faithful but other than that I haven't seen much use.
Another one is that I don't believe the Old Gods are really so sincere. How do we know if they are willing to even work with us if we were to unleash them? Couldn't they easily just through us into a worse prison than before. I know this cult is about heading into the unknown and courage to do so but I don't think we should be so rash as to unleash them. Now if you look at this metaphorically it still is true, in a way.
Now the last one is that I find High Priest Satanis or maybe the cult in general as a bit manipulative or arrogant. The main thing is how Lord Satanis says "I am the way." I agree with that in a way but it almost sounds like you have to follow him or else you will not achieve godhood. That is probably just a misunderstanding but it is still something I would like to be clear on.
Thank you for answering and don't think of me as judging your religion or your leadership just a few innocent questions.

I think that the main answer to your concerns and doubts is a matter of paradigm. I will try to address your concerns in the order expressed.
First, as far as the hideousness and tentacles go, what are they symbols of? The slime and ichor and ooze and the color green all deal with primal life on this planet. Literally, in many ways, this facet seems to be to address the origins of not only human life, but of all life. Similarly, I believe it to be about embracing those aspects of life that we normally find repelling or repugnant. This is a very similar process to the concept of embracing your shadow, only applied on a larger scale.
As far as the rituals go, I believe that some people have the skill and strength of will to contact outside entities and work magick without the need for a complex ritual. However, the purpose of ritual in every magickal tradition I have ever studied was to help align one's frame of mind to help facilitate those actions. It's kind of like wearing a power suit; you feel a lot more confident when you know you look good, and therefore project a more confident and controlled persona.
As for the Old Ones' sincerity, I think you would have to first meet them, then come to an understanding. In this paradigm, that is one of the things that one chooses to believe. Belief is power after all. If you have doubts that the Old Ones are sincere and that they might not align with the goals of the Cult or yourself, then perhaps this isn't the right place for you. This is one of those places where intuition is very important.
As to your concerns about Lord Satanis, this is definitely a paradigm thing. He has done fantastic work writing scriptures for the Cult and is the figure who really runs this show. In those senses, he is the way. I will readily admit that I was cautious when I saw the way we were to address and refer to him. However, if you read his blogs and watch some of his YouTube videos, I think your impression will change. He seems to be fairly down-to-earth and willing to admit mistakes or clarify his answers. He can also be observed to change his mind.
Now, I am a new member as well, and these are the impressions I have gained in researching the Cult. I want to be clear, that I have not had a vast amount of correspondence with Brother Satanis. My point being, he has in now way manipulated or brainwashed me.
The overall point is this: he has created a paradigm that appeals to certain facets of the human experience. Many of them are not nice, some are downright nasty. However, the Cult, the Paradigm, was created for the purpose of our advancement in power and knowledge. The question I feel you are asking is "Is this the place for me?" Only you can answer that.
The God we worship is our future selves!

Very good answers, I thank you. Once again the cult almost mirrors my own beliefs, at least from you have said. You answered my questions with the answers I was thinking of, the main thing I wanted was a cultist opinion, and I will still wait for more, but so far I am even more interested.

Also I have the other problem in which I do not think there is any branch of the cult in my area.
I will do more research into this matter later, but is it allowed to join the cult only through the site, at first at least?
I will search for a near by meeting spot in do time and if I decide to join.
Also I don't really believe in worshiping in something. Worshiping shows weakness and that we are inferior. I admit at this point humanity is inferior but that doesn't mean we should accept such things, and from what I gathered you guys do worship Cthulhu and the Old Gods right? This is another thing I have mixed ideas about as I have read things that say you don't really worship them in some ways.

There are many who believe we focus on such things too little.
Rituals are entirely optional. If a Cultist doesn't want to do any kind of formal ceremony or dark rite, that's perfectly fine with us.
And there's always a chance that our parents, roommate, or significant other will suddenly decide to murder us in our sleep. If you want to lay awake at night freaking out about that possibility, go ahead. Odds are extremely good that the Great Old Ones, who gave us the potential for higher states of consciousness, wish to see us join them as Gods. However, there's never been any such animal as a sure thing.
If you, or anyone else, can find a Lovecraftian devotee who is a Master of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky's 4th Way teaching and has also been called by the Great Old Ones themselves to be their instrument on earth, then don't let me stop you from becoming a disciple of him or her... whomever that might be.

(I address these in order I find most important to my contemplation of joining.)
My thoughts exactly, I was hoping for at least that matter to be touched on. However, my other thought was that there would eventually be a clash with the Old Gods, perhaps something similar to the disagreements between Them and the Lesser Gods. I find such an encounter between the ascended humans and the Old Gods only a matter of time after They have been awakened.
Now I'm not saying we should back down, I believe we should go forward at full force. Then once They are awakened (whether it is literally or metaphorically) we should at all means try to keep peace which should be easier since the ascended humanity would be more intelligent and we did a great deed for Them, but there is always the risk, and I believe in preparing for the future.
I'm sure this is common sense to many of the cultist, though, since they are of a greater understanding of the things around us. However, I still wish to say it because I have been subjected to the mass to much and I have learned to make myself clear.
Yes, I agree that you are extremely qualified, but some things on here just come off as your the only way. Which I know by reading the writings and posts on this forum. I just wanted to confirm my thoughts.
I don't quite agree with the tentacle and hideous answer, but it is of something of little importance for it will not effect me too much and wouldn't hurt the cult unless in some bizarre unlikely future where the people of this cult only focus on that and forget their true purpose.
As for the ritual subject it is a slight relief that I would not necessarily have to do them, but I would still probably try it at least once.
I thank you High Priest Satanis as I was hoping to hear from you personally in at least one of my posts and once again you appeal to my thoughts greatly. I actually doubt there would be anyone better to oversee the cult than yourself.

I worry about Cultists forgetting their true purpose as well; but even an obsessive preoccupation with tentacles and hideous things is preferable to freemasonry, how weekdays correspond to the Old Ones, and thoughts on popular movies. Not that those subjects are god-awful, but let us focus on Awakening physically, emotionally, and intellectually. The Cult of Cthulhu is for man's continued evolution... not idle, random, fanboy chit chat. Our religion is serious business.

Yes, I agree that Cultist focusing on the symbol of the hideousness and such more then instead of drifting to pledge to another organization or form of media that may poison their minds with thoughts that will prohibit their evolution. At least the tentacles has some more important meaning behind it, however, I don't believe I would be one to focus on that for many reasons that apply to my reasoning, but I concur that people need a preoccupation of something that helps them at times.
On another note it is somewhat a coincidence that you mention Freemasonry as I made a post asking about them earlier, or maybe not a coincidence as it is quite possible that you noticed that thread. Even that slight mentioning of it gives me more input on what the Cults reasoning is, so even if you did not mean it in that sense I thank you High Priest Satanis for that answer and for your intended answer.
Now I am even more interested to hear from some other Cultist on their views as I want to hear from anyone and everyone.

The Cult of Cthulhu is not so controlling as to dictate to the cultists specifics of ritual or practice. The Cult is very liberal in that how you approach and execute the work is up to you. I have been in here a little while in this time have applied aspects of many varying religions and philosophies. including things like Luciferianism, voudon, buddhism, necromancy, Druidry, satanism, kabal etc etc. anything that has taken my fancy. If your worried that the tentacle & slime aspect of the cult might not be for you then don't use it. if your worried that it is preoccupying other cultists and distracting them then constructively help, or just let them be.
What is important is the 4th way, and the relationship it shares with the cult. Even so, the cult beyond giving its members a general nudge in the right direction lets you take the steps for yourself. Where not going to take you to a camp and brainwash you.
High Priest Venger ego and posturing isn't so horrid as to abandon the cult because of it. The formalities and rules of the forum are here to keep things structured nothing more. It's not so ridiculous of Venger to want some respect and admiration for his accomplishments with the cult. Especially from the cult itself. I have all ways found Venger very helpful and knowledgeable, whom when approached for help or anything of constructive and relevant nature to be just that; helpful. I'm not just blowing smoke up Venger's arse either. He doesn't ask for worship or stone idols just respect. the stone idols are just a bonus
The cult is a community of individuals that ideally work as whole to benefit each other, both on an individual scale and on a larger one.

First of all I shall start with forwarding you some links:- The goal of the CoC cocthulhu.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=biblical&action=display&thread=3544Smoke and Mirrors II cocthulhu.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=vs&thread=3989&page=1Reloaded cocthulhu.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rules&thread=3892&page=1Also there is a very good thread on here re:the definition of what an occult is, I am having trouble finding it right now (think it has to do with too much red bull in my system lol). I realized how I stumbled into the COC reminded me of a Honey Pot Trap and how other groups have similar methods of enticing new members, mostly the RHP ones. I have had enough experience in life to realize that I shouldn't blame groups like this directly, as it was me who followed my curiosity and it was me who made decided to commit. To blame COC and its member for entrapping me would be wrong. At times like this one must learn to take a step make and maturely ask themselves brutally and honestly what are they doing here, how they got here and why they feel eg, they are being manipulated, instead of ranting and accusing people of manipulating them and using them. I am a new member of COC also, and from my short time here, they have proven themselves to be honest people. Ask yourself this, if you were to start your own group how would you do it? Can you see the similarities to other peoples methods to get people in? Would not some members also accuse you of manipulating them? Ikaros summed it up quite nicely. As occultists everyone has got there strengths and weaknesses and methods that work for them. Which does not mean to make the occult path your whole life, that is a trap some occultists fall into big time and can't find a way out. It is dangerous to use the occult path as a shield from the normal everyday life. There is a fine line between being dedicated and just hiding from the world. I admit it is hard at times finding a balance in this area. Belief Is Reality Loki Dreaming

And a way is precious, searching for more than 20 years I found no others so I will follow him... Now is the moment of Awakening.

Exactly what I have been thinking. The main thing I was trying to make sure is that he wasn't saying that he is the only way. Which is one of the things that made me drift from Christianity since most of them say that Jesus is THE way.
