[glow=red,2,300]Francisco Goya[/glow]I decided to make a post about the Spanish painter Francisco Goya who lived and painted from 1746 to 1828. There is a movie coming up about him, so why not make a post about him here, so people who have not heard of him can have a chance to experience him before seeing the no doubt very romantic and grand movie about his life. He was an extremely talented and well respected painter, but after he went deaf due to and illness his art took a turn and became more dark. Also the Napoleonic invasion of Spain in 1808 seems to have marked him. During the invasion he (as all other) witnessed horrible acts, which also seem to have influenced him deeply, at least according to my Goya book. His art was considered very blasphemes by some people, but he was also known for his beautiful portrait pictures. [glow=red,2,300]Dona Isabel de Porcel, 1804-05[/glow]Today, it seems he is mainly remembered for his later pictures. His style went from light, colorful and highly detailed to a more dark and blurry style in his older days. Here are some of his great pictures. He painted about 500 during his time, he was quite a busy artist. I was not familiar with him as an artist, thank you Madguten for posting his art. I had to put the Witches' Sabbat as my background. -H.

Im glad that you enjoyed Goya. He was really talented and he dared to paint the grotesque. His motives are not as time-typically fantasy-free as many other master painters of the era.
