I just wanted to know what the consensus of opinion on the Wicker Man was. I am going to hold off giving my review...

I thought you meant that film from the 60s, with Britt Eklund (was it her? I think it was). Is this a remake of that movie?

I think it's a remake. The original was pretty good. I haven't seen the new one.

hey guys, i moved this topic because i'm saving the review section for my own personal reviews. i set that section for 'staff posting only' but obviously that didn't take. oops. but i'm glad that you guys decided to post about cool movies like Wicker Man. i'm hoping regular professional reviews done by myself will not only create a small draw to the forum, but i'll get some cool swag in the bargain. being High Priest has it's privileges. so, i created an area for everyone else to review or discuss music, books, and movies... and this is it. enjoy, VS

I have The Old version. Even though it is old and a 70's movie it is good. No happy ending. I recommend the original in that The Detective isn't told the truth until the ending. for those of Blood Axis fans will remember "He Who has been sacrificed". Right from the orignal lines in the movie. Also Christopher Lee stars in it too. draw your own conclusions. ;D

still haven't seen the new one, but i agree that the original Wicker Man is a great film. i watched it again last month. i love the expression on the detective's face when he sees things like children being taught Paganism and adults fornicating outside at night.

The new one is dreadful It's blasphemy really to call it by the same name. It bears little resemblence to the original film- the bits that are the same, are the only good bits. What made the original what it was? Religious tension, and sex. Neither of which are in this version.

This is an eerie film, and the version I saw was the Nicholas Cage remake with my room mate. We were both spooked out of our minds watching this one, and I would watch it again but first pick up the version released in 1971 with the novel. I could tell from the film that the guy who wrote the novel was inspired greatly by H.P. Lovecraft, namely because HPL wrote about witch cults. I liked Nicholas Cage's characters shocked look when he found the crow in the desk. He was thinking, "sick." He was taught by normal society to respect animals, and this society he was lead into for an investegation was following ritual murder and all the other things that are wrong in modern culture. I did see the religious tension in the remake but I want to see the original version and read the book to see the differences between the two. I think this movie is a classic either way you look at it. Being an occult horror writer, it is an important piece of horror history.

I really liked the original... and in my opinion Johnny Ramone,(who the new movie is dedicated to) would pluck out his own dead eyes to protest the abomination that has been schlepped forth from the hollywood pulp mill.

The only scene I've seen from the original was the "burning scene" in a documentary called "Scream Greats 2-Satanism and Witchcraft" (an excellent film). And I have seen all of the re make. Although it is a fantastic story line, it mixes elements of Wicca (a "goddess based religion) with ancient Judaism (Human sacrifice). In my opinion, the only thing that makes it Satanic are the women's ability to seduce men into doing their biding (something every true witch does [read The Satanic Witch by Anton Szandor LaVey] when she deems it appropriate). All in all, I give it one severed thumb.

this remake was horrible. it wasn't even really a remake, it twisted the meaning quite a bit i thought.
the one part of the new one i had the most fun with was that the missing girl's last name was woodward, and the guy who played the cop in the first one was edward woodward.
the christopher lee & edward woodward wicker man is one of my favorite movies.
