Something totally new for me happened some days ago. That night, I was dreaming that I walked on a street, and then I asked myself : I'm dreaming or I'm awake ? So I made an effort to be conscious, considering if everything around me was "real"... and I woke up ! As it was 4 o'clock, and could not fall asleep again it damaged my night, but I wonder if you had the same experience. Never before I've heard about wondering if you're dreaming when dreaming.

It's lucid dreaming. Next step is to tell yourself before you fall asleep you will consciously know you're dreaming. Think of a place, person or object you want to be in your dream. It will help focus you. Worst part for me is controlling when a dream turns nightmare. Best is getting to do the impossible. Now you can Awake twice.

Usually when I discover that I'm dreaming I'm like a caged animal who MUST wake up and go through extreme measures in my dream to do just that. I remember one time I was ramming my dream head into a wall over and over.
I assume that has something to do with the fact that I've had sleep paralysis a lot. If you've never had it, it's NOT pleasant. It's like being somewhere between being awake and asleep and not just knowing your body's paralyzed but feeling it as well. There's a horrifying sense of "SOMETHING IS HORRIBLY WRONG -- MY BODY'S NOT WORKING!!!!"
The last time it happened I heard my girlfriend come in the bedroom and sit at the computer desk next to the bed. Inside I was yelling as loud as I could, but outside she later told me it seemed I was mumbling something in my dream she couldn't understand. After what seemed like forever she finally went to get something and when she came back she made enough noise to fully wake me up. The paralysis lifted like wax dropping... slowly at first but increasing at an exponential rate until it felt like I broke through the surface water.

We all have that sensation.
Why MUST you wake up? Lucid Dreaming is the chance to explore your subconscious in the most investigative way. Next time, imagine a tennis ball and bounce it against a wall, the floor, or any object you can. Watch the reaction. Observe it objectively. Try to self remember while lucid dreaming. It's your only chance to observe the deepest recesses of your mind.

Have you ever watched an animal as it realizes it's trapped?

I've been that animal, for the last 3 months. Every now and then it gets unleashed. I'm all too familiar with that sensation.
