Ian> You know this article all puts me vaguely in mind of the Mothman Prophecies. What piqued my interest and the possible connection was this paragraph from the Lovecraft article that Darrick posted a link to. "First spotted atop the Boright building at the corner of Main and River streets early one evening around dusk, the Awful, according to records of old, was a winged creature that resembled "a very large Griffin-like creature with grayish wings that each spanned ten-feet." The creature possessed "a serpent like tail that equaled its wing length" and "huge claws that could easily grip a milk can's girth." SciFi is about to air an investigation about the Mothman. Here is the "official" Mothman website. www.mothmanlives.comIn short the Mothman legend is this: The History of the Mothman "A classic true story of modern horror -- The following two paragraphs are taken directly from the back cover of John A. Keel's book "The Mothman Prophecies: *For thirteen month the entire town of Point Pleasant, West Virginia was gripped by a dark terror that culminated in a tragedy that made headlines all over the world. This is a story that contains all the elements of a modern science fiction movie but every single word is true and fully documented by famed journalist John A. Keel." *Homes throughout the little towns were plagued with unearthly noises and ghostly manifestations while mysterious aerial lights traveled silently overhead seemingly on a regular schedule. Winged monsters and frightening apparitions terrified the population as automobiles stalled and telephones and TV sets ran amok. A Red Cross Bloodmobile filled with fresh blood was pursued along a darkened highway by a weird flying machine. Domestic animals were found slaughtered and mutilated in pastoral farm fields. Innocent people lived in surrealistic horror, haunted by the fearsome demonic "Bird" and besieged by legions of strange beings (some of which arrived in ordinary-looking automobiles)." "According to eyewitness accounts, Mothman stood much taller than an average man, at 7 feet tall, perhaps 8 feet. Its most prominent features were the massive wings spanning 10 feet across. Some accounts stated that small patches of feathers were spotted on the body and wings, some said the wings were featherless. Even more unusual were the huge, red, glowing eyes on the generally featureless face. Some eyewitnesses were unable to recall seeing a head; these reports stated the eyes were actually in the shoulder area where a neck and head "should" be. Few, if any, could remember details about the presence or type of feet the creature possessed. Eyewitnesses alleged that Mothman could fly without flapping its wings, and could match the speed of an automobile trying to flee at 100 miles an hour. The creature never seemed to flap its wings when rising from the ground -- it evidently was able to rise and float above the earth's surface with little or no effort, not making any sound or noise."

Facinating...I have always been a firm beleiver in such things as mothman , spring heeled jack , sasquatch , chupacabras...the list goes on and on . seems to me that we cannot possibly be alone in this realm ...and if we are, it is fuckin sad. Ive been watchin these shows that proclaim that vampirism was a middle age desease like consumption or such...and it got me thinking that " hell, anything can be scientifically proven or disproven in the same blow " we still dont know crap about this stuff so why not fall back to the centuries old explanitions of the super-natural? it only seems natural to me that these things were already explained by our ancestors why should "science" change anything? I mean regardless of what theories that science throws up , I dont think it makes one whit of differance to the folks that experience these pheonominon. try telling those mexican farmers that it wasnt a chupacabra that killed and slaughtered his sheep...he wont respect or beleive you because he saw it and his beleif structures his reality.

Fascinating. www.angelfire.com/ut/branton/species1.htmlwww.greatdreams.com/reptlan/draconians.htmThere are similarities between the mothmen and supposed species of alien known as Draconian or Alpha Draconis amongst believers in extraterrestrials. They are suppossedly a race overseeing the reptoids and stand around 8-10 feet. They're said to be winged and move with awesome agility. It is believed the location of the eyes on the mothmen are a result of the massive saurian creatures gazing down upon the smaller humans. Whether I buy it or not...I dunno but it seems like an interesting connection.Im sure if one wanted one can easily trace these beings or similar creatures back to even further than that www.salux.net/images/annunaki.jpg (just a picture googled in images)I digressed It seems Lovecraft understood the value of belief in relation to the imagination which I feel made him an awesome wrier.
