Well I'm still sorta on break right now. But I had to come back for a bit because I had an epiphany last night as I lay in bed trying to sleep. No doubt most of you are familiar with my "personality destruction" method of self modification right? Well recently Ive been trying out a new idea. What will follow is three paragraphs. The first is the initial experiment. The second is the aftermath of the experiment. The final is what I perceive as the ramifications of this new information, although new input is always valued. I mean, why else would I be posting this here? Before I begin however, I believe in giving credit where credit is due and so I'll say here that VS initially got the ball on this rolling with one of his comments regarding my essay. Although the actual leg work was done by yours truly... Clearly, my essay will need to be revised one day with this new information....
Alright I desired to modify myself in the process of awakening. This is the true nature of the work yes? So I decided that smaller steps may be warranted as they are easier to travel. This seemed like a logical approach. Anyway, I decided to start with something relatively arbitrary and yet annoying at the same time. This way, no major damage would be done if something were to go horribly wrong. Seemed practical enough! I couldn't help but notice that I get too irritated at my wife over trivial matters. I did not like this. So I decided that whenever I felt this way, I should simply imagine her doing her adorable "little booty dance" instead! This will cause me to giggle and thus banish the annoyance! Peter J. Carrol once wrote that laughter is relatively neutral and and is thus the best banishing mechanism... So I tried it and it works! Whenever I got annoyed with her, I would stop for a moment and just giggle like a loon...
Anyway, the interesting aftermath of this effect appears that I no longer get annoyed with her... This is fascinating, although highly unexpected? Have I perhaps successfully modified my machine? I'll be the first to admit that this experiment is very Pavlovian in nature and yet I didn't expect it to just stop? I expected just giggle like a maniac whenever the events in question occurred? Anyway, the psychological effects seem profound and yet, I'm actually not sure precisely why this happened the way it did?
The ramifications of this seem apparent when I dwell on it. First off, in order for this experiment to have been successful, some level of self remembering must always be present. Since it was successful, I believe that much seems obvious. Secondly, in order to have modified myself like this, I believe that personal desire for change must have been present, otherwise the whole thing should have fallen apart at the seems. It's also interesting to note that this isn't exactly unlike the destruction method illustrated in my essay and I'll tell you how. In my essay, I said that without recognition, undesirable facets will surely wither and die. And isn't that what has happened? By cutting off these emotions at the very start, I have successfully eliminated them! I realize that I'm equating emotions with personalities here, but in one essence, that can be successfully done as those emotions will bring forth aforementioned personalities. That said, it may be a safe bet that the personality in question is dead. That is, the petty personality who gets irritated with trivial bullshit!
Now with all that said, I graciously await your input fellow cultists! Please tell me what you think of my experiment and offer any theories as to exactly what has happened as I am very interested to see what others have to say...
