"The work is beneficial when you can see demonstrable results" Priestess CoraSahn- Prestess or R'lyeh
Gnosis is the key to magical abilities; altered state of consciousness. The achievement of an intense state of consciousness is the key to magical powers and is known by different names such as ain, samadhi, no mind, one-pointedness, or satori. This involves awareness being emptied of all data, a state of tabula-rata except the object/subject of concentration.
Simple as this might sound, it is one of the most difficult part of magic for a first timer magician: The ability to recognize when one is said to have attained Gnosis. Most often the first timer lacks the discipline of concentrating on the the object/subject instead of the source of ecstasy. Reaching Gnosis can result in experiences like encounters with powerful beings, demons, angels, gods, and even hurling sigils.
An adept uses this time to force the universe to confirm with (his/her) will. Many a time this natural way of creating beneficial changes can become a torn in the flesh of a cultist because of his/her inability to discipline himself and achieve it hence, man sometimes resort to technology for help in the form of drugs. Many of these drugs induces gnosis.
This altered state of consciousness may be achieved using various methods. Some of these methods are; Death posture ( different types) magical trance concentration, trance inducing drugs, sexual excitation, dancing, drumming, chanting, emotional arousal and many other forms. I will explain two of these methods based on experience.
Sexual Excitation: This is probably the most used method to first timer or new entrants into the world of magic and the most difficult. This is so because the first timer gets carried away by the excitement of sex and most time completely forgets the object/subject matter and is immensed in the act for the pleasure of it alone instead of achieving Gnosis. In this case (sexual excitation method) there has to be a transference from the lust or sexual act required to flame the sexuality to the object/subject of magical working at hand.
Somtimes in sigil magic to keep the cultist focused during sex both parties must be in the know of what the sex is for ( other than mere pleasure) this may require the posting of the glimph on the fore-head of the other party, so as to be concentrated upo during Gnosis, whichever way discipline is required.
The second method is the death posture or fake death. This is done to attain a state of clear mind or denial of thought stream. This consist of blocking the ears, nose, and mouth, and covering the eyes with either the hands or opaque clothing material. The breath and thoughts are held back until near unconsciousness involuntary breaks the posture. this requires discipline too.
This method is widely used among the priests of various gods in african culture. The yorubas of western Nigeria practice a lot of this form of attainning Gnosis assisted with drumming and dancing. The igbos in the eastern part of Nigeria, the priest, by standing erect after much incantations stare fixedly without breathing until the eyeballs bulge and then another voice completely take over and he brings down the anger or blessings of the all powerfull diety known as Amadioha.
Be that as it may, ones ability to silence the mind of all other thoughts at a particular time is the gateway to forcing willed change and achieving Gnosis.
Finally, it was H.P Lovecraft who said "The most merciful thing in the world, i think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all it's contents" to a large extent it is true. How the state of Gnosis act as a part way between the natural and supernatural is one act that the human being cannot understand. The question itself is like asking- why do the green stars have seeds-.
