Put off the old man, and put on the new man, that is being renewed unto knowledge'.- St Paul
Esoteric philosophy indicates the path towards the permanent. It is a very 'personal' science due to the personal character of esoteric work.
This philosophy (Cultist pursue) transforms the very being of those who study it.
According to Boris Mouravieff in his book one of Gnosis, he states that Esoteric science concerns man as he is; in other words man studying man with the aim of knowing himself-as he is and as he might become under certain conditions.
Esoteric philosophy is normally undertaken by select group -not by design- initiates, unlike the positive or general philosophy which studies man in general. Both the Esoteric and positive philosophy have the same objective- evolution of man. The method of achieving this objective is where they differ. While the positive sciences extends from the center moving towards the outside of man, the esoteric path centers on the inside man, helping him influence himself. Esoteric science begins from the multiplicity and variety observed on the periphery accessible to our senses, and moves towards the center. It tends towards a more and more general synthesis
Man on earth is living a life of false reality but does not acknowledge these, though he is receptive to knowledge the essence in him been obscured by false personality, rejects whatever divergent views that run at tangent from his 'perceived' reality. The amalgam of (i)'s in him tend to shock him into taking the least difficult option -remaining in illusion- the nature of 'the sleeper'. Because of man's strong aversion to being told the truth -which is what esoteric ism is about- he tends to go in circles heading to planet nowhere.
Esoteric teachings is avoided by man because of man's nature of tending to shy away from introspection because of the fear of what he is going to find: The truth! Man been made to see things in an objective way rather than the subjective reality he is suppose to. Esoteric science which urges man to turn the searchlight and mental vision on himself becomes a taboo. This mental vision, in the views of Boris Mouravieff will help him discover three (3) attributes;
*Animal life of feelings
*Vegetative life of instincts
*Human life
Though each is exclusive yet all are inter twined.
Man's attitude is dominated by outside events, as a result he lacks direction, turning at every turn not caring where it leads, like the ocean waves that slaps each other competing who touches the shore first, unstable.
This aversion by man to study himself makes the many contending (i)'s in him very unpredictable, he is ignorant of this chief feature in him, as a result the (i)'s lack control and coordination. Awakening eludes him due to the scattered rumble of contending (i)'s, this is indeed dangerous.
Esoteric philosophy indicates the possibilities and means of detaching ones-self from this apron string of 'sleep'.
Esoteric philosophy which is all about introspection when carried out relentlessly results in;
*Enhanced internal sensibility. This improved sensibility in turn intensify the amplitude and frequency of movement whenever our (i)'s are disturbed.
*It enhances our ability to refine and cultivate sensitiveness, which can change our state.
*It helps man acquire firmness and help him help himself in the face of tempest.
*It helps one get rid of all illusions about oneself.
* It helps one to begin a new and purposeful life. Even the Christians preach to be 'newly born' as a pr-requisite to inheriting God's kingdom.
* It teaches man how to be logical with oneself, in all facets involving him.
* It opens man's eyes towards realizing that he lives a factitious existence.
* It gives one the knowledge from which he derives power to become his master.
It is like when one sleep-drive, you close your eyes to reality. If you cannot see your destination chances are that you will not get there.
Esoteric philosophy opens ones eyes, so that one can confidently drive with purpose:
Finally, there is joy in self-discovery so much joy that Esoteric- ism could be liken to the discovery of Archimedes, who was so joyful after he discovered the principle which bears his name, ran around the town of Syracuse shouting 'Eureka!'.
