WYRD and PREDETERMINATION

"Predestination" tricky and confusing subject, what is predestination? how is it different or if it all different to reincarnation on the concept of WYRD, non linear time, circular time, prophecy and other related terminology and beliefs from other belief systems?

My understanding, interpretation and experience of predestination/WYRD etc is the the RHP accepts the predetermined path(s) of the WYRD and let it be where as the LHP bends the WYRD/predetermined path(s) to their will/image. eg, the leaf flaoting on the river is traveling down the river due to the currents of the river pushing it that way, however we are able to lightly nudge the leaf/individual to go right or left ad therefore alter the path(s) of the leaf in the travelling river/WYRD.

I had a conversation with a Shiek practioner and I realised that people misunderstand that predetermination is not set in stone and we shouldn't be sad about it as we have the power to control our own individual strand of the WYRD (the term of ones individual strand I cannot recollect) and that when we do, it becomes a beautiful pattern, therefore the WRYD is truly a bunch of beautiful CHAOS patterns rather than a beautiful weaved tapestry as we are lead to believed...however I have learnt personally that there is only so much you can bend and twist the wyrd before it snaps back and teaches you major lessons for life...the trick with bending and twisting the WYRD...is to pull back before it snaps back to you..which takes a lot of time, patience and licking of wounds..lol...people (mis)interpret this as karma.

My life was going where it should be, then my parents decided to send me to a Christian summer camp and I turned into a Christain to my parents horror...lol...which in turn pushed me down a different path....this is an example of another predetermination which most forget to factor in, in the predetermination discussions...it is others who can shape your own WYRD and change the direction of your own individual WYRD strand to a certain point in your life, before you one day go I AM NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE and reclaim your own WYRD.

Tempted to post this to the FB pagan groups I belong to and see what happens...as it can be fun provoking them like that...lol...

whilst this is a familiar sounding concept I haven't heard the term 'WYRD' before, what are the origins of this word? what are your sources?

I feel that all events are predetermined, not by some cosminc entity though but by the preoccurance of phenomena. taking the leaf in the stream example one can see that the leafs path down the stream is predertimined. The leafs arrival in the stream was also set to happen well before it did, due to the locality of the originating tree and the local weather patterns. All of these influencing factors them selves have also been predetermined by other influencing factors.

when the average person experiences this they may consider it to be fate, or destiny. But truthfully it's nothing more then a natural process resulting from consistent reaction. All phenomena are a reactive process which has arrisen due to other reactive processes. It's basically a snowball effect. It's along this line of thinking that one can become familiar with the buddhist concept of emptiness. which can be learnt as; all events are percieved as independantly arrising and existing of their own accord. However to truly understand the concept that it may be of value, takes some insightful thinking.

I think once one has truly come to see this in all manifestation one can move towards both peace and power. Peace when one considers it's implications against the condition of humanity and consciousness. Power when it's applied in magic, where it's application takes the form of more causally directed will.

Where did I get my sources?

From a lot of books on Asatru and Celtic Beliefs and Practices and loads of time on FB Heathen and Asatru groups...lol...and a lot of pondering and meditation and quotes that I keep finding unintentionally in books and online from a book called something like the tree and the well, which I am trying to track down (out or print for years) as I am taking this as a sign it is a must read book for me.

ps:- some of the best descriptions of WYRD and Predetermination comes from author's minds which they then turn into a book eg, THE Dark Tower Series by Stephen King and Melanie Rawn's The Exile Series, which has a very good interpretation on this.

That's some interesting stuff. I think the concepts of the Norn's arrival ending the time of the gods has some attributes correlatable to the mythos. Although I wouldn't know where to begin. I haven't looked in Norse mythology quite so much as the other pagan traditions.

If you felt so inlcined perhaps you could write an essay on this for the upcoming Green Trapezoid.

I must confess my knowledge on Norse Mythology and Practices is at best shaky due to it is in the find more time basket majority of the time.

However, I could give it a shot, no harm in it I guess.

Ahh, setting yourself a short term goal like an essay is a great motivator when it comes to inquisitive research and exploration. It gives it a culminating point.
