Yes, at long last!
The breaking news is that President Obama will bring all our troops home by 2012. It's a bold and important move for the United States. Not to mention, a monstrous political power-move for Obama himself.
The way I see it, Obama gets credit for officially ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He also stops our country from hemorrhaging money via military spending. The U.S. has more people looking for a job which makes the Republicans look even worse than they already do. For those who don't know, the Republican controlled Congress has virtually stopped any job or economic stimulus bill from being proposed or approved. It is this political deadlock between Democrats and Republicans which gave birth, in part, to the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Now, veterans will be, for the most part, on the Democrat side because (A) They also need jobs - which Obama is fighting to give us. (B) Obama allowed them to come home from the Middle East. (C) Military personnel are not going to allow Republican and Tea Party politicians to jerk the U.S. around according to the whims of their corporate masters. They will demonstrate too, if need be. Imagine the Occupy Wall Street movement or parallel protest, full of angry and frustrated combat-trained soldiers!
This is probably the smartest move Obama could have made. Truly a great day for the United States of America.

so in other words you mean that this move allows obama to reclaim some of the control he had?(maybe had not sure) or you mean that this may or may not bring a conclusion to this stalemate of Democrats and Republicans.
I am not too fammiliar wiht the US politics but its always interesting to get to know them. Anyhow this may or may not rise his popularity back in the US (still havent understood what your troops are doing there so long time.

Well it's all nice and good and all but we have not put down the insurgents in either country, and once we pull out open war will happen and the current governments will more then likely topple, because instead of sending the troops back in in force we'll probbaly just send in advisers and cash to try and prop them up until the last minute when they crash.
This is a double repeat of Nam over again, we lost the war in both Iraq and Afghanistan simply because the governmnet hampered the militray and would not give them every thing they needed to actually win the war.
This is Obama's ploy to look good for the people, and basically buy the vote of the youth and stay in power for another 4 years.
well the thing is with the Democrats vs the Republicans. If the dems try to help America the Repubs block it,same goes if the Repubs try to do something for America the dems block it.
Either way neither side is Honest and both sides bow to the Masters the money lenders on wall street.Neither side is better or more noble the the other.
Both the democrats and the republicans get away with the things they do because they know in a civilized world people are going to bow and scarp to their so-called wisdom and power.Where as in a more Barbaric time they would be out on their collective cans with both a bad name and dishonor and quite possibly a sword through them.

Do a little investigative research on the issue. The news mentioned that negotiations were made. I think you'll find that Iraq will remain stable, more or less, after our troops have been pulled out.
How did the government hamper the military?
It may be a "ploy", but it's politically sound and overall good for the country, in my opinion... and the vast majority of Americans.
What changes do the Republicans want to make? More rights for corporations, less regulations, destroying our environment, and punishing the lower and middle class. This is why there's a 99% movement.
I occasionally feel just as frustrated as you. And no, I don't trust all Democrats. However, I usually side with progressives and liberals when it comes right down to it. Have a better answer? Let's hear it. But be prepared to put action behind your words. The armchair complaint department is at the end of the hall, the door with all those tentacles coming out of it.

I guess one thing that sticks out for me about Obama bringing the troops home (finally) is that polls have shown for years that the majority of US citizens wanted the war ended. They wanted the troops in Iraq to be brought home, regardless of the backlash in the Iraqi culture or government. Now that it's been announced that the President is following through with his campaign promise, the GOP potential candidates (even Ron Paul who claimed he would withdraw the troops on day one of his Presidency) are criticizing him for doing so. Does that mean the GOP potential candidates are against following the Will of the American people? Does this mean that they don't really care about where the American people want to see our tax dollars spent?
I don't know if Obama's decision to withdraw the troops completely by the end of 2011 was really the best thing for the US's foreign relationships, if it was simply a political move, or if he really is exercising the responsibility to represent the Will of the people. Only time will truly answer those questions. What I think is that if Obama continues to lead in a way that represents the Will of the people, the Americans will see the Occupy Movement as in alignment with the President, and he'll win the reelection.

Did Obama make any campaign promise to return the troops? As I recall he was against the war at the onset, when he was a senator, but during the campain his position was one of "well, we're already there, it's gonna take some time to clean up the mess we've made of thing before we can leave and BTW lets do a troop surge and send more guys in". Or something like that. Anyhoot, it's about damned time. Can't call Barrack nor anyone else much of a hero for ending this thing now. Too little too late. Anyone ever hear of roundup? Roundup ready GMo crops? Yes, everyone is at least semi aware of Mansanto. WELL, Iraq is now growing that crap and covering that part of the planet in roundup. Appartently there is even coercive laws that basically force the Iraqi farmers to buy Monsanto seeds and grow Mansanto crops. The War In Iraq? Mission A. Com. What can I say, besides "It's about damn time"? I think that this move has secured his re-election (if it wasn't secured already). Even if it took too long, he's still going to look like the good guy. And, by the way, I got a grin on my face when Lord Satanis created the image of angry, protesting soldiers. Maybe that in itself is a brillant political move by Obama to sway OWS? In any case, that should give the movement a little more sway.
