Anyone watch this last night?
I did and found it very interesting. While, I'm not a conservative, Republican, or Tea Party member/supporter, I think that learning about such things is valuable. After all, this is the state of the country... the political leaders of the country. America is fairly evenly divided by party lines.
Assuming that Barack Obama continues his Presidency into a second term, which I believe he will, Obama still has to contend with the opposition.
As for the debate itself, I more or less agreed with the post-debate commentators. Both Perry and Romney stood out as front-runners. John Huntsman surprised me with how well he did. I now see Huntsman as the least evil of the Republican nominees... or at least the most presentable. Ron Paul just seemed crazy - even making Michele Bachmann look reasonably sane. Meanwhile, Rick Santorum (google his last name), Herman Cain, and Newt Gingrich really didn't shine through enough to make any headway. Those three have now proved themselves to be bottom tier candidates.
Most of you probably didn't catch the debate, but feel free to watch it on YouTube and comment in this thread. Post your thoughts, questions, and comments.

Were there any actual debates on the issues? Or were they all just giving competing promises to cut taxes and love America?

Paul wins every debate. He's the only person who can talk on any issue without notes/talking points. The establishment tries to make him look crazy. They have contained him much better this year than four years ago. He's the reason why many of the debates weren't televised last year and why they stopped doing live polls. Notice the types of questions they ask him compared to others and then the moderator often follows up to try and argue. Last year he won every single poll from every debate. Not only did he raise more money than every other candidate last year but his average donation was around $10. He also raised more money last year from military households than all other candidates (Republican and Democrat) combined. Even Jon Stewart noticed how crazy the establishment is on Paul: www.thedailyshow.com/watch/mon-august-15-2011/indecision-2012---corn-polled-edition---ron-paul---the-top-tier

He's also one of the few people who has remained consistent on his views. Look at him back in 1988 on Morton Downy defending the legalization of drugs during a time when the stance was very unpopular. All those people screaming at him and calling him crazy. Listen to his responses:

They talked about immigration, social security, homeland security, healthcare, and mandates... among other topics
I can go on the net and find several articles, blogs, and posts saying that Herman Cain won the debate. Ron Paul was arguing against any and all regulations. That means corporations can do whatever the fuck they want. Getting rid of air traffic control and food safety?!? Not even die hard Republican and Tea Party supporters are that reckless.
No matter how "popular" Ron Paul seems, people who have some political authority/influence (debate moderators, the media, electoral college) realize that he's far too extreme for America. He's probably the least moderate candidate. That's going to appeal to some, of course, but there's no way he'll ever get the nomination. Plus, he has zero charisma.

Does he really want to get rid of food safety ? If yes what a dangerous fool.
But I like very much his economic program, indeed in my opinion he is the only one with a serious economic program.
And, point of view of a foreigner, I like very much his foreign policy, too...
By his loathsome tentacle !

I don't mind extremism, as long as it's correct and beneficial. The problem with Paul is that, on economics yes he is consistent, but consistently wrong.
I tend not to trust debate moderators, the media, or the electoral college. Neither do a lot of other people. His economic consistency resonates with more people than the system will ultimately be able to contain. Too bad that counter-system impulse is going to the right, though I think the same thing is happening to the left but without representation in the media.

Got a link for the debate please.
It that time of year again..lol...in a good way.
I am always fascinated and amused with the American election campaigns and the amount of mud flinging and scare tactics they use.
Will not be as good as the Obama/Clinton show though.
LD
ps:- the amount of scare mongering they did (both parties) before they sign that package to avert the stoppage of the US economy was very LMFAO chicken little syndrome. Of course it could be averted without the end of the world happening...lol!!! Everyone was just busy scoring political points.

Ron Paul was arguing against any and all regulations. That means corporations can do whatever the fuck they want. Getting rid of air traffic control and food safety?!? I disagree completely that he was arguing against any and all regulations. He was arguing against the government mandating that they have the authority and responsibility of being the regulators. So it's governments way or no way? We can't even discuss it our we're against all regulations. Do I also have to be pro-weed to argue for weed being legal?

It seemed obvious to me that Paul was softening his getting-rid-of-all-regulation spiel on the fly because he didn't want to be ridiculed off the stage.
The government does have the authority and responsibility to regulate. Who is going to make sure the EPA, FDA, and ATF are actually doing their jobs if the government stays out of it? The people? Corporations themselves?
Do you have to be pro-weed to argue for weed being legal? Good question. Is it a distinction without a difference?

That wasn't obvious to me. Can you point me to a single speech or video where he takes the 'getting rid of all regulation' position? I've never heard him take that stance. If you'd like to site any material to back up your argument there's plenty of his stuff at www.ronpaularchive.com

If you'd like to site any material to back up your argument there's plenty of his stuff at www.ronpaularchive.com I don't need to look at anything beyond the debate in question. Watch it again and maybe you'll see what I mean. To be honest, viewers need only to watch the first 25 seconds of the video below. The debate moderator summed it all up briefly before getting to his actual question and Paul did not dispute it.
BTW, did anyone catch the second round of debates a couple nights ago? I missed it, but have seen highlights, as well as, a bit of video footage on YouTube. Thoughts?

Ouch. That is a disturbing start with his "oh, the market will take care of it and us" bit.
Sure. I believe that people are capable of organizing and controlling themselves. However, in this country we've created a history of trying to control things so much that right below the surface of whatever little government control are these massive corporations who are just itching to rape and pillage the average person as soon as their leash is loosened a little.
So, I'll go with his no more federal regulations idea if you want to first destroy every company and make everyone start from scratch. But the way things are now, it's just a delicate balance where the top level is barely avoiding totally reaping the very souls of the American people because they have to appear fair enough to pass a couple legal tests.
On a general note, I certainly feel that any extremism on any side is a terrible idea and shouldn't be running a country.

That's because we let them. We actually encourage these massive corporations to rape and pillage us. How? By letting them convince us that we just have to have the latest version of the Iphone or the next version of the tablet or Blu-Ray vs. anything else or ... The leash is loosened enough for them to provide us with more "stuff" that we just have to have and us to not realize what is really going on. There is another thread discussing consumerism, and I think it was Priestess Cora that said every dollar spent is a vote. Right now, I think we as a society are "voting" to remain asleep on a daily basis. We are being fed ways to continue sleeping, and many are chomping at the slop being fed. Awake! Can or would it be a good idea to let states take care of them selves with minimal Government involvement? What are some facts on it?

Well it's that time again. Just watched the latest GOP debate last night & it was ok, not as thrilling as I'd like but oh well. Here's my break down of the folks:
Cain: TWICE he changed his answers (just a bit) to fit the crowed when he was challenged by another speaker, Embracing. He also avoided answering tough questions in his usual way of "I'd talk to my advisers about what's the best course of action too take". LOl. But other wise he was cool.
Gingrich: Was pretty solid the whole way through & even looked better dissing Paul on the Timothy Mcveigh topic. Showed a "humane" side during the topic of immigration.
Bachmann: Made me extremely terrified of Chinese & Iranian people. Had that Look like she's on good drugs.
Romney: Pretty solid. Used more statistics than any one else, which I think helped.
Perry: Did a lot better this time keeping the finger pointed at Obama. Kinda looks like he's in his own world.
Paul: His loosing his cool with all the "Talk, talk" of the other candidates. Looked pissed off. Said the same things as usual.
Huntsmen: What a strange looking dude.
Santorum: Got sorta passionate when describing America being the light of the world, was maybe a little creepy. Drank a lot of caffeine before.
Best fights?: Gingrich vs Paul & Romney vs Paul.

I think he would probably make the best Presidential Candidate - he's definitely a cut above the others.
I didn't watch the whole thing, but saw a debate from a week or two ago. Can hardly believe they're up to about 12 debates now! Anyways, I saw clips of this one. Heard about Gingrich's "soft" immigration ideas.
I still think Romney will get the nomination, even if he basis his entire campaign on how President Obama is a failure.
Did they mention the super committee?Wow, Romney comes off as a total dick!

Is it news to me or didn't Obama say we'd be out of the Middle East by this December, WTF changed since two weeks ago when I heard it?
I'm not familiar with Huntsmen, but he has that politician swagger(when they get good at delivering one liners) that I don't like. I'll have to read up more on him.
Ya, they all pretty much agreed it was a failure. To busy inside trading lol.

www.addictinginfo.org/2011/11/04/10-reasons-not-to-vote-for-paul/Even though I'm voting for Paul, I thought this would be useful. Is it just me, or is anyone else tired of war & the excuses for it. "Team America" seems to hit home when listening to a lot of these presidential nominees. Fear Iran, fear the Chinese, fear domestic terrorists who hate "freedom". When does it end! Will there ever not be an enemy to detract us from the profiteers of such conflicts! It's just weird is what I'm saying. There is no fucking shortage of fear to hand out to the sleeping public who will gobble it up as the machine turns on. I feel CRAZY! Awake!
