I was talking with a friend of mine today and she said specifically that I could not be a Satanist because I've never sacrificed anyone, I do not acknowledge the Christian god, and I'm too "nice"... Where do people get off on this line of thinking? I think it's safe to say at this point that there's more than one type of Satanist and I get annoyed when someone try's to put me in a box like that... Or in this case, take me out of said box!

Permit me to elaborate: you see, I became Facebook friends with this woman. And her grandmother has nothing better to do as she's on oxygen. Her grandmother is yet another gun toting right wing Christian nut job btw. She saw some of the posts I made and many of my friends on Facebook are Satanists. She caught me saying "Hail Satan!" to someone on there and now she's worried I might be a bad influence. So she had a "talk" with this woman who's a friend of mine and then the woman in turn, had a "talk" with me about Satanism. But it's clear to me that she's made up her mind on this matter and is so into her own ideas that I could tell it would be useless to argue with her, even if she is clearly wrong and I had oh so many good comebacks for her to savor...

I just told her that I'm an ancient style pagan (not to be confused with neo-pagan)... And that's essentially correct as I have many gods. To me, Satan is the very embodiment of the spirit. It cannot be contained or controlled. Make no mistake however, he is sentient. But I conveniently left that part out!

Shame on you for acting like a Satanist:P Well ya know some people just can't stand having their beleifs about satanism shattered..ya know the fact satanists don't go around killing people,etc etc is just too much for soem people.

Who cares what she thinks really? I mean, if you convinced her otherwise, would you feel validated?
If you get accused of eating babies, agree - I like mine in spikes. Babies on spikes are good, with tater tots!
I can relate to the pagan slant, Check out my paper 'Satan as a pagan symbol'. It's on my website. More of a collection of thoughts, and research really - not a formal paper by any measure but I think it might appeal to you.
People like categorizing, labeling, and we label ourselves. This is where all that identifying comes in.

Well by my understanding of the mind, it is labels that give things meaning. When you take something away from that label (like eating babies), you take away from the essence of that label. And it's a safe bet that she's simply not willing to do that as she has affixed her own beliefs onto that label. But you're absolutely right. I mean, I know what I think, and it has nothing to do with what she thinks... In the end, whether I'm validated in her eyes or not means dick! I validate myself with my own opinions! P.S. I was always more of an onion ring kinda guy myself!  |
