I believe these go hand in hand, for only the intellect can find Him through thought, and thus eliminates those who cannot think. Intellectualism can be summed up with this: the moral obligation to speak the truth for the common good, even at personal risk. Is that not what CoC does through our High Priest? He has brought us together to speak the truth to the common good, risking himself in various fashions. Also, this does not fall into akrasia, for we know our best judgement is being used as well.
Belief is reality.

Hello brother, I do agree that the Cult and Intellectualism are closely related, but then all beliefs are related similarly. It is not a defining factor of the Cult that we possess intellectuals more-so than the next religion, as every faith exudes the "moral obligation to speak the truth for the common good, even at personal risk." Examples being Christian martyrs or indeed, martyrs of any faith. In order to progress in the Fourth Way, the individual must be willing to take the beat-down that follows. As for the Truth, the Cult embraces the core philosophies of both paths, and works as the bridge to the epistemological future. Using this logic, we can conclude that all faiths are preaching the Truth in some form, usually with extra-planar similarities but always moral ambiguity.
