I’m concerned,
Though I whole-heartedly empathise with the connection that most of you make with darkness and certainly fall victim to it myself, I wonder whether the broad definition we use is, well, correct? Strictly speaking we are relying on two broad concepts, first, the light, which indicates both a form of energy and an ability to see; it is easier to see in a well lit room than a darkened one, and second; darkness, which scientifically infers little more than the absence of light, darkness is then something less than light. The trouble is, I think we all may have mixed the concepts up, through awakening what we have encountered is light, taking us out of the darkness.
Most people live in a mechanical tedium in which their action is determined by little more than routine; exercising a painfully low level of consciousness and self determination, having woken from this state surely implies that we are something more, not something less. Moreover, we undoubtedly see a great deal more than our sleeping counterparts, in order to see, must there not be light? If we are asleep, do we not sleep in darkness? When we are awake, do we not see by the light of day?
My concern isn’t that we shouldn’t identify ourselves with the iconography of darkness as testament to our rebellion and disapproval of mainstream religionists, for I would encourage this. My argument is that we ourselves should regard ourselves as enlightened, and understand that we are the true children of light; the world is wrong; this is our insight; the religious concepts it understands as light, are in fact of the dark.
We see through the secret veiled light of Hermes.

good point. i use the term enlightened every once in awhile, although you are correct... a term like endarkened would fit better if we consider ourselves children of darkness.
if the world is light, is considered light, then we must assume the opposite stance. illusions are created with light and light is needed to project this holographic universe.
regarding people being less, mechanical people have more to them, i think. not only do they have an Essence or True Self, they also have too much personality, too much of this world inside them, too many "I's", too much negativity, false ideas and imagination. those who wish to awake need to shed themselves of all their useless machinery in order to become less... almost nothing.
when we are mindful and in the present moment, we are closest to nothingness, the void, the abyss...
does this make sense? please let me know what you think about these ideas...

It has been said"without the darkness, light cannot shine" not everyone is suited to existance of simple unquestioning. I say that we are born into the light and the few of us who are unsatified with the illusion or glamor spend the rest of our days searching once again for the darkness. however this is just my hypothetical stance and should not be taken for more than just that

I look at it like this...the darkness to Me is a safe-haven. With My eyes and mind adjusted I see in the darkness. If I am in the dark...My mind is much clearer, without light My thinking is free and I will sleep as to dream..If there is light maybe I would not feel so protected from My enemies....Since I was about seven years old, maybe younger I have always been a child of the night...the only one awake...I feel I belong in the darkness...reasons? Not 100% clear...The darkness is where I am enlightened, Where I see the light. As long as I am asleep before the light comes I will be in a deep slumber. The light to Me is a lot of time My enemy...but having children I am forced to face My enemy. Blessings.

I can quite see where Mike was coming from and I think he meant when one would move from obscurity from true sight.
I agree also with the way I AM the way put it.Beneath all things will darkness reside and the light the illusion hiding the truth.
I believe its all a matter of what resonates with you personally.I always digged the dark scene due to Cult Of Cthulu's two main writers (especially Ligotti whom I like the best.)

I probably had to find this thread only now .... As it is very interesting to read other's opinion on this. I had a very good conversation about this with someone yesterday. I told him that when I visualize my inner core I see a great bright ball of light, he saw the opposite a black ball of light. Yet on many issues we've come to the same results. So I assume that whether your path starts on the white one or the dark one, the results are the same. There is no light without darkness and the other way around. They both come from the same source, so neither one is better than the other one. For almost 15 years I have been working with white light/energy to end up at the dark end and there is no real difference. The only difference is that here I got my answers straight away and it's like taking giant steps somehow. I think I needed those 15 years of whiteness to create balance within myself as it is easier to explore unknown territory when you have a balance to go back to. The only thing that I only realized yesterday is that protection that is well-taught in white ways can not be used here as it works against you. You can not protect yourself from the ones you are aligning with as darkness and light are the same. I guess after my green dream and the monstrosity of a sound/bang I thought I needed to protect myself before I went to sleep with the result that when I fell asleep it almost happens instantly, I fall into a pool of darkness and within the very minute I wake up feeling like I'm almost suffocating and I start to cough badly. So last night I skipped the protection and everything went dark again and there was no suffocating at all...

Yes, balance is an important part of the big picture.
Ruling out the other side, results in missing out on a point.

I like the idea of "endarkened."
I feel I am seen as being "dark" or "negative" because I don't fit into the ideals other people hold dear. This merely means I am more in tune with the hidden, unknown, DARKer forces of instincts I refuse to deny. I am being true to the animal I am, instead of the social slave everyone else wants me to be. I am self-governed and intuitive, rather than allowing myself to be absorbed in the light of someone else's revelation. Because other people don't know or understand that my inner force guides me, they are afraid of what they do not know. It's dark to THEM, because they themselves have lost precious night vision for having the lamp on too long.
That's how I view it, anyway.

I am not saying that I fully understand where you are coming from. I do know that the moments of "void" that I am experiencing make me feel empty and fuller at the same time. Silent but whole. I have never perceived "darkness" as a negative source of inspiration or energy. To be "darkness" isn't the opposite of the mainstream notion of light it is no different then Carl Jung's concept of "shadow" something one should embrace not repress, master it not be enslaved my opinion of darkness or "black" not the shade is nothing but a note to what is hidden there is no abyss except for what lies within. So essentially my opinion shadow, darkness is the path to self-discovery to ascend into ones own version of light)enlightenment one must descend into darkness(hidden desire) LvThN the sub-concious

I agree with Venger. physical light and dark are only illusions. The darkness most of us speak of is of a deeper nature.

To throw a little Buddhistic/Hinduistic philosophy into the mix:
Light moves and changes, flickers and fades... It's nature is that of illusion at best.
Light's forms are many, but there is only one darkness, within which the light pervades.
The darkness is what defines this illusion. But even with the illusion gone, the darkness remains.
It is said the strongest strength is like water: you cannot cut it or hurt it, it resists not. Darkness is the same. While light may seem powerful, it takes energy to maintain. And thanks to entropy, this energy is slowly fading. Darkness in this sense is stronger: you cannot destroy it because of this paradox. Like water, which is symbolic of the ultimate passive, it has through reconciliation become stronger than the active: To have mastery over something is to let it have mastery over you.
Darkness is the first and last. Light will fade, energy dissipate, and matter will fall into the yawning maw of the cosmic black holes... but the darkness is eternal.

To me, the darkness and the light coincide. A child is born into the light, lives in the light, but hates the light because of something. Then, the child discovers that he/she has a hidden nature made only of darkness that sleeps within. Then the light is no longer noticed or held in such high esteem anymore and the child tries to embelish the darkness of the soul. Thus living in a sense of right or wrong until they find the ultimate darkness, which either scares them or they care about it so much that they are drawn to it to it further until eventually, they are bathed in its darkness, completely saturating the soul with it. There is several levels to "darkness" and "light". The best light in being helping another person and getting satisfaction from that alone. The worst darkness being betrayal, murder, or genocide. So my life is pretty gray in color, as I use black and chaos magic. Sometimes for a positive benefit. The worst deed I have done is lied to another and then stole something from him. I stopped doing that when I was caught and I actually learned why such things are "wrong". Then again, what is an accurate sense of right and wrong, good or evil?

Besides being gray though in nature, picking and choosing what I like and can use, tying black magic down to our sleeping God, I would have to say that I actually learned my lesson, it only happened once, and aside from being gray (green in this case), my life is actually legal through and through now but its also quite interesting. If I published a biography, a lot of people would say its fiction because its too interesting.

I want to expand on the point the HP made the universe being holographic.
THE HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE BY MICHAEL TALBOT_NOTES Michael Talbot wrote a book called The Holographic Universe which I recommend to anyone to add it to their reading list. I will just post a few short notes taken from the book. It is a book I came across by chance one day while I was looking to buy a cheap paper back on the local outdoor market stall.
...there is evidence to suggest that our world and everything in it—from snowflakes to maple trees to falling stars and spinning electrons—are also only ghostly images, projections from a level of reality so beyond our own it is literally beyond both space and time.
...If our universe is only a pale shadow of a deeper order, what else lies hidden, enfolded in the warp and weft of our reality?
...Looked at another way, the ability of consciousness to shift from one entire reality to another suggests that the usually inviolate rule that fire burns human flesh may only be one program in the cosmic computer, but a program that has been repeated so often it has become one of nature's habits.
...Jahn and Dunne are not so timid. They believe that instead of discovering particles, physicists may actually be creating them. As evidence, they cite a recently discovered subatomic particle called an anomalon, whose properties vary from laboratory to laboratory.

When people begin exploring the Work, the question "where is this going?" is often raised, and the answer is often ambiguous. This is because in our typical "sleeping" state, we lack the perspective that would facilitate understanding of the ends. The majority of us are at the point of beginning to wake; we sense that there is something more to our potential state than what we currently are experiencing. The goal of the work is the discovery and development of the totality of this potential, but until we advance through the work we have trouble conceptualizing what that potential might be.
Michael Talbot's work illustrates the possibilities. The reality we experience is most likely only the outer shell of something greater, and potentially something more reactive to individual participation, than our social programming and sleeping state allows us to comprehend. As aware beings, we can clearly manipulate the program that the universe is running, even in our sleeping state we do this to a limited extent. What wonders await those of us who achieve awareness and become active participants in reality instead of just observers?

Think of Lucifer.. the light-bearer who dwells in the dark. We must SEARCH the DARKNESS within to FIND the LIGHT within the VOID. The darkness in this case? The sleeping world. When we are awake, we can search in this darkness and find MORE light. We DO notice more than the sleepers.. I believe if we can control our awareness, we control our reality.
And because sleepers do little TO control their reality, we may be able to control their's as well. Perhaps THAT is how magick really works? While people sleep, your will tugs various people to set up the end result of your will, getting you what you want? You do a spell to find a certain item.. you get it because your will influenced the sleepers to assit in obtaining it. They do not realize it because they are unaware.
Perhaps if one was to achieve full awareness, wouldnt that make you seem omnipotent? In that light, being awake IS achieving Godhood, as you are free to empose your will with little apposition.
AWAKE!

In the Kingdom of the Blind, the One-Eyed Man is King, eh? This makes perfect sense to me. Being awake in a land full of sleepers clearly gives the awakened an distinct advantage, one we should exploit without mercy and whenever the opportunity arises. The only danger I would see is the pursuit of these advantages derailing our personal efforts for greater awareness. We should not become satisfied with merely being able to take advantage of the sleeper, but instead always move toward our greater goal.

I would liken that to a man living among a tribe of apes. Now, that doesn't mean all the apes will instantly bow down before the human being in their midst; however, there are advantages. Certain things can be done here and there for him to rise above his simian contemporaries. In a sense, this would make him relatively Godlike. Funny enough, I was thinking about the original Planet of the Apes just this morning. Fantastic film!
I've read The Holographic Universe more than once. It is an excellent resource for seeing things in a new way... a more accurate way, I believe.

It was during a channeling session a while back that I slipped into on a whim whilst I surfed the internet I began typing out a message. My intent was to reach out as far as I could into the void and make contact with whatever lay beyond the confines of this known universe. The finished message, which I will post later this month, was curious and exciting. The Void holds many adventures and I will have them all if I can. What lingers in me is a want for this power. To never let it go and become it forevermore. I will not miss this human form I am sure ov it.
The LUX and NOX are the key elements that have helped me gain a better understanding ov what must be acheived and with the guidance ov those wiser than I all expections will be surpassed.
