I'd like to take the plunge into reading the Fourth Way books rather than reading about the Fourth Way books - but I don't know where to begin.
Any suggestions on where a novice should start?

If you want a lightning fast read, then I recommend The Psychology of Man's Possible Evolution by P.D. Ouspensky. A more indepth look is The Fourth Way by the same author; it's also a question and answer format based on numerous lectures. If you're looking for more of an origin for Ouspensky's understanding of The Work, then get In Search of the Miraculous.
A few of us are going to start reading and discussing Creating a Soul by Girard Haven as a small group. However, the book is no longer being published and may be out of some people's price range. Speaking of expensive, if one is dedicated and can afford it, then get Psychological Commentaries on the Teaching of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, Volumes 1 - 5.
You can also do worse than picking up Meetings with Remarkable Men by G.I. Gurdjieff.
Over the next few months, I'll be reading a few other books on The Work. When possible, reviews will be posted on the Cthulhu Cult blog. There's already one up there; however, I didn't get that much out of it.
If other people have recommendations, then please speak up!

Thank you High Priest! I found most of what you mentioned online, and then collected them all together with other Fourth Way PDF's I found. I'm missing Creating a Soul, and Volume 5 of the Commentaries. I'd really appreciate it if someone could send those PDF's and I'll add them to my public collection. The collection can be found here: www.scribd.com/AbrahamOgden

Impressive. That should help some people. Personally, I wouldn't want to do without a physical copy, but this is a whole new age. Hail cyberspace!
