October 2-3-4-, 2009 • Hollywood Theatre, Portland Oregon The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival promotes the works of H.P. Lovecraft, literary horror, and weird tales through the cinematic adaptations by professional and amateur filmmakers. The festival was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore in the hope that H.P. Lovecraft would be rightly recognized as a master of gothic horror and his work more faithfully adapted to film and television. www.hplfilmfestival.com/

While I applaud their efforts...
...I have yet...YET...To see one one single film that is loyal to the work and vision of Mr. Lovecraft...
...Save the original "Re-Animator"; and, that was to a story that Lovecraft himself wrote off as simple fluff...
I'm appreciative; but, doubtful...

I watched Cthulhu (2007) yesterday (finally) and I really liked it. I thought it was a great reinvention of the tale (Shadow Over Innsmouth).
I have a pretty extensive list of all the movies and television shows that are either true to the tales, or inspired by.
I think film festivals are a great way to gain exposure to some possible visualizations of ideas and creatures in the stores.

Alas, I totally live on the wrong side of the country. Any news of similar film festivals on the East Coast?
