The DP (dominant paradigm) states that you go to work or school, then come home, and deserve a little reward like dessert after dinner, so you pursue "entertainment." Other than the hilariously condescending nature of that term, most people have no warning that movies, TV, video games, pop music, stand-up comedy, pornography, and anally fingering themselves are all part of the same genre of "entertainment." If you're a good slave, you get a little break. This little break is designed to pass your time painlessly, like a drug but without interesting hallucinations.
It is entirely passive in that you do not direct any of your thoughts during the process, but you react to something someone else has scripted. Your goal is not to expand your mind or your abilities. It is to pass the time, and think what you saw was funny or interesting or "entertaining" in some other way.
But, as one poster pointed out here, why would you bother? It's not required. It doesn't make you more powerful. It doesn't help you become a better person. In fact, like other parts of the modern disease, all it does is stick you further into yourself. You may think it helps you be social because you can talk to others about what you saw on the teevee last night, but is that really helping you socialize, or making you a social retard who can't socialize without entertainment to talk about?
This modern world is crazed for entertainment. Every ghetto rings out with it. In the middle class neighborhoods as well you can walk the streets after dark and see nothing but a continuous blue glow in the windows. All of these people are busy absorbing entertainment, and its commercial and moral messages, but they've missed the fundamental question.
The question the DP wants you to ask is: was that entertainment good?
The question you need to ask is: what else could I have done with that time that contributed more than a closed-circuit knowledge, which is entirely defined within the entertainment world and limited to it?
If I became head popular monkey ("President") tomorrow and declared that our new national form of entertainment would be putting quarters up our asses, and everyone spent their next morning at work comparing how many quarters they were able to insert, you might be tempted to participate in that fantasy world.
But while you were busy shoving quarters up your ass, you'd miss out on chances to learn new things, do new things, and make yourself better as a person. You would be exploring a false external world that really consisted only of your own internal drama.
So whether or not your quarter-pushing was "good" or "bad," you still missed out on life. So it is with "entertainment," all of it.
