I saw a trailer for some new film with Vin Diesel thats coming out called Babylon A.D. Its based on a novel called Babylon Babies. I havent seen it, and know nothing of it.
But at 1:34 in the official trailer you get a REAL clear look at the Simonomicon sigils on Mr Diesels neck.
Check it out.
It looks too modern for me (the film), i just thought i would mention the sigil thing, i had been looking for an excuse to do so ever since i saw the trailer.
Why the simonomicon sigil i wonder, and to which degree it is random, perhaps if Church of Satan had not copyrighted their version of the goat star then it would have been THEIR logo on the neck of Vin Diesel. Perhaps it is just that the movie guys are getting lazier and lazier every second of the year, and simon cant copyright "ancient" symbols.
now im ranting, sorry. ;D

I dont think so, a move like that could limit a hollywood career.

I dont think so, a move like that could limit a hollywood career. Any decent makeup artist could conceal a tatoo with makeup! Angelina Jolie has lots of hideous tatoos and they are almost always covered.

"All The President's Men".
Just kidding.
While I wouldn't consider "Alien" film series(As amazing as the first two films may be)as Lovecraftian in any shape or form; I am curious to ask why you chose it as your #1, please?

New movie supposed to be released this summer "Call of Cthulu" ...here is the link for the trailer .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1MuyA688aM
Ok, never mind, it turned out to be a fake trailer. Guess I just want to see something like this turn out to be a real movie so bad. Maybe CoC should form it's own movie production company!

Maybe CoC should form it's own movie production company! Not a bad idea; my fellow Texan... With the talent of some of the forum's members...Perhaps an animated picture would be an interesting concept...

the creatures in the Alien ,Predator and Species were based on art by H.R Giger who made them as interpretations of creatures in the necronomicon. i think one or more might even be titled "necronomicon" hes got allot of great art worth checking out www.hrgiger.com

not Predator, but Giger designed the Alien and Species creatures. Predator is it's own thing.

I am familiar with the Giger books; Necronomicon 1 & 2...However, I have never read them; so, I cannot give an accurate commentary as to their relation to the Lovecraft works...

I think it has more to do with the atmosphere of the movie. The surroundings being all dark and creepy. Only caching small quick glimpsis of the monster. You didnt evan really

ask and ye shall receive. so what did you think?
there's a lot more Lovecraftian elements to Alien than just not seeing the monster right away. the whole thing is cosmic horror... alien findings, the unknown, eldritch atmosphere, small minded attempts to grasp something with cyclopean might, etc.

There is on youtube a Dunwich remake, from 2009 I think. Its all split up into separate parts. I like the images used in the opening titles sequence.
I think in the film Cloverfield captured a little something ov a lovecraftian beast, something like a Dagon which by the way was an excellent film. I had it on DVD but I lost it or it got stolen.
Another film I remember is called Necronomicon which features 3 different tales linked by a central character. The production is good and slick. The effects used in the first tale are quite good. More Tentacles if you please, more tentacles if you don't please.

Don't forget In The Mouth of Madness. It definitely follows Lovecraft's model. Then there is the dollar movie Drak Heritage(yeah, that's how they spell it on the menu) which is also The Lurking Fear. From Beyond was a great one too.

Futurama: The Beast with a Billion Backs
I love the show Futurama and I was thinking about it last night and I also was thinking about Cthulhu realizing that the Futurama movie was similar with Him.
Summary is that a dimensional rip occurs and as they investigate it they realize electronics or machines cannot enter as the robot Bender was their test, but humans can as Fry does. Inside is a larges creature with many tentacles that then invade the other universe and connect everyone with a tentacle with Fry acting as a prophet of how great the tentacle is.
After that and everyone accepts the tentacle they are lifted up to that Universe to live with the creature, but the robots/machines were not able to. The creature explains that he watched their Universe form and wanted be with them but was trapped in this other Universe. The creature is also made of a special matter that does not exist in the human Universe.
Now watch the movie and you will definitely see the connections. It is a comedy cartoon show so its not really serious but it is an interesting connection. I haven't watched in a while and would like to soon as to observe the connections more.
Belief is Reality!
