Ahh, but Iram is supposedly real. It is a lost (pre-islamic) arabian trade central in the middle of the Saudi desert. From wiki Ubar was mentioned in ancient records, in its Arabic form "Iram", and was spoken of in folk tales as a trading center of the Rub al-Khali Desert in the southern part of the Arabian peninsula. It is estimated that it lasted from about 3000 B.C to the first century A.D. According to legends, it became fabulously wealthy from trade between the coastal regions and the population centers of the Middle-East and Europe. The city became lost to modern history, and was thought to be only a figment of mythical tales.
The Qur'an says that Iram was a city inhabited by the tribe of 'Ad:الربع الخاليRub' al Khali/Empty quartersIramen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iram_of_the_PillarsRub Al Khalien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rub%27_al_KhaliMore from wiki Recent excursions
A scientific excursion organized by the Saudi Geological Survey was led by a team of 89 environmentalists, geologists, and scientists, from Saudi Arabia as well as experts from abroad on February 25, 2006, to explore the Empty Quarter. Various types of fossilized creatures as well as meteor rocks were discovered among the parched desert dunes. The expedition also led to the discovery of 31 new plant species and plant varieties, as well as 24 species of birds that inhabit the desert, which fascinated scientists as to how they have survived under the harsh conditions of the Empty Quarter. These findings led the geologists to nickname the area Rub' al-Ghali, or the Valuable Quarter.Last Damn Edit: ;D About the story The Nameless City. I think that both, the stories of Iram and the temples of Egypt, perhaps especially at Saqqara have contributed to that story.
