there was a thread a short while back where Madguten mentioned Videodrome and i said that it was on my list of movies to see. no idea where that thread is because it was a tangent that had little to do with the now-forgotten original post. that's why i started this.
well, i received the Criterion Collection DVD of Videodrome today and finished watching it a couple hours ago. not a perfect film, but a great one. weird seeing movies made a long time ago for the first time in the present. like dreaming in another time... it also gave me some ideas that will probably be incorporated in future Cult material.
anyone have a favorite part, message, or image? anyone not like this film? let the discussion begin!

Videodrome is totally mind porn for me. I love the paranoid skitzofrenic sense it has captured so well (in my mind). The actors are great, the director must be somewhat of a genious. The story itself is also right up my alley. These tapes (like the japanese "The Ring" tape) always capture my interest if they are mystical enough in nature. If i can "buy" them sort of speak.
On danish, videodrome would be labeled a "kult film", its a funny term, we would also use it about the V alien series. Thats a kult series.
My favorite part of the movie is the main character, aside from being played by James Woods whom i dont hate, the drive of the character is something i enjoy. Once he begins to realize what is happening to him, i like how he handles himself.

btw, i found an old David Cronenberg Documentary
David is kinda bright.
I must seek out his other works.

yes, any film that has a small but devoted following is also called a "cult movie" or "cult classic" here in the US. which is cool, cause that's what we are... a small but devoted group.
have you seen Naked Lunch? Cronenberg directed that too and special effects-wise, it actually comes together better than Videodrome which was innovative, but occasionally unrealistic. still great effects though and light years better than CGI. yeah, Naked Lunch is a great film. the protagonist is a lot like James Woods' character in Videodrome. a tall, thin, quiet, introverted yet expressive weirdo

I havent seen Naked Lunch. Funny enough, my brother (who bugged me to watch Videodrome) has also been telling me about Naked Lunch and William Boroughs (who wrote the novel Naked Lunch, more or less about his own life).
I must see that movie soon.

I rented this. Haven't watched it yet though. I'm retty fond of the director though so I'm thinking it'll be a good one.
