i noticed a very inexpensive hardcover book of Thus Spake Zarathustra at my nearby Borders. i will begin reading it in a day or two. it would be nice if a few other forum members did the same... so that we could talk about Nietzsche's philosophy as a small group.
regardless, i will be posting my thoughts on the text frequently.

Mind if i start right away with some thoughts of mine about Nietzsches Zarathustra, accompanied by some quotes from N.??
I want to quote something that Nietzsche wrote in his Antichrist: (All italics in the quotes are added by me!!)
"This book (the Antichrist) belongs to the most rare of men. Perhaps not one of them is yet alive. It is possible that they may be among those who understand my 'Zarathustra': how could I confound myself with those who are now sprouting ears? - First the day after tomorrow must come for me. Some men are born posthumously."
Those men that are born posthumously are the overmen, Nietzsches main-topic in his Z. Z. is one of the best Books one can read, especially for magicians of the LHP. Its a book about death and life. I want to let Nietzsche talk a little bit:
"I teach you the superman. Man is something that has to be surpassed."
"What is ape to man? A laughing-stock, a thing of shame. And just the same shall man be to the Superman: a laughing-stock, a thing of shame."
"Lo, I teach you the Superman! The Superman is the meaning of the earth. Let your will say: The Superman shall be the meaning of the earth!"
What makes the Superman that superior?? What makes US appear like a 'laughing-stock, a thing of shame'?? It is our inability to be true creators, originators of our own values, morals, and ethics.
"Art thou a new strength and a new authority? A first motion? A self-rolling wheel? Canst thou also compel stars to revolve around thee?" (Part I, The Way of the Creating One)
Are we?? Are we a first motion?? We Satanists, Cultists and followers of the LHP talk about becoming as a god....but do we have the courage to honestly ask ourselves 'Am I a first motion??' ?? And can we face the answer?? Can we?? Can I??? DO I EVEN DARE TO ASK???
Nietsche again:
"Ready must thou be to burn thyself in thine own flame; how couldst thou become new if thou have not first become ashes! Thou lonesome one, thou goest the way of the creating one: a God wilt thou create for thyself out of thy seven devils!"
I have nothing to add. I am looking forward to a great discussion about Nietzsches Z.!!
(Damn, i like that book so much!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D)
Hail Satan!!

very Left Hand Path. his ideas seem to be crystalized darkly within his soul. yes, i like how Nietzsche says essentially the same thing in most of his works. Antichrist is very much like Zarathustra.
what did you think of The Three Metamorphoses? the burdened camel, the roaring lion, and the child? this seemed very strange to me, but eventually made sense as he explained them.
i'm enjoying the book so far, even though some of it is: philosophy as vague or disguised prose.
some ideas must have been down right heretical back in that age, renouncing the christian idea that the body is bad, etc. such notions are commonplace today.
thoughts?

Yes, the 'Antichrist' and 'Zarathistra' are very similiar, but only when it comes to the topic!! Their style though is very different. 'Zarathustra' is prose AND philosophy! Nietzsche condsiders his Z. to be his masterpiece, and i agree. I found that you either hate it or love it! (By the way, we have to keep in mind that Nietzsche is a polemic writer! He is very passionate about whats in his heart!)
The metaphor of the camel is clear. Almost all mankind is in that state. The Lion is the pre-stage for what is to come. He is able to free himself from the fetters of society, but still isn't able to do what only the child can do. To be that first motion, you have to be innocent, you have to forget everything you know!!! Only then can we be creators of our own values! If we try to build on what we know(Lion-stage), we will be limited and bound by our knowledge. To go where noone has ever been ( i call that the Picard- or Enterprise-Factor), we have to enter the child-stage.

I'm currently reading Zarathustra, but I am having some trouble comprehending certain parts, so I keep referring back to the translator's notes.

The Anti - Christ is going down, Zarathustra is going up, very opposite feelings. Towards the end, Nietzsche moved away from nihilism and went mad. One of the great thinkers, yes.

[red]IA NIETZSCHE!!![/red]I read Zarathustra and his major books when I was 15 or 16, didn't really understand it word for word back then but caught some of the message. His importance for the un-awakened person can't be stressed enough. Here's another fascinating online personality with very Nietzschean thinking: www.datejesus.comRead his sermons if you wish, they are very intelligent and practical, many of which mention or analyze Nietzsche. And his personal dating ad is one of the most amusing ever, he even used to own www.jesus.com years ago! ;D I wonder how much the new owner had to pay him for that one, he mentioned in a FAQ back then that he'd sell it for something like hundreds of thousands of dollars only.
