congrats must go out to AVPR... because never have i witnessed a movie that could so easily win worst movie of two consecutive years, such as 2007 and 2008. this pile of junk made a serious wrong turn at every juncture.
wow, it was just bad. email me if you want specific details. but suffice to say, it made the original AVP look like The Godfather. so not good!
you have all been warned,

"so Venger... why didn't you like Alien versus Predator Requiem?"
ok, how long do you have?
i'll try to give you the gist without overdoing it.
these are the major things that bothered me...
1. the audience doesn't care about the characters. random people are killed left and right as well as main characters that have so little development and emotional attachment to the audience that they might as well be cardboard people.
2. the "Predator-vision" is not only getting old, but it looks outdated and utterly crappy. its no wonder that the Aliens are always getting the best of them... they can't fucking see anything with their masks on! the original Predator came out of the 80's, so the audience could forgive the obscure vision and infra-red stuff, but in 2007/2008 i think we can move beyond blurry shadows of red, blue, and black.
3. there's no plot. Aliens infest the Predator ship and send it spiraling down into Colorado for some reason. they escape, some Predator comes to look for them and kill them. humans do a bunch of stupid teenage things. everything gets nuked and a laser is preserved for some secret reason. the end. wow, no wonder we never got any character development. there was no story to create a handhold.
then there were the little things... like why would the Predator take time and effort to melt everything with that blue liquid unless he was trying to be secretive, covert, and hush hush? well, he kind of defeated that objective by openly attacking Aliens and humans willy nilly. oh yeah, and why did that cop get skinned? the Predator was here to kill the Aliens? or was he? we never find out, but that isolated skinning just seemed like a clueless, cheap tie-in to the original movie and felt very out of place.
and how come no one except the hunter and his son saw a huge fiery spaceship crash land? how would that even be possible for no one else in the town to know that happened?
why wouldn't that kid that got beat up and his keys thrown in the sewer not call the cops. that's not only assault but his employers could file charges or sue the kid as well. and how come that kid's car keys were at least 50 feet away from the sewer drain?
how "cool" is it to show kids, babies, and pregnant mothers getting killed on screen?
how would the "protagonist" if you can call him that, survive with an Alien tail piercing his stomach?
how would a chopper fly with bullet holes in the glass? how did that stupid chopper escape the blast? how did the army suddenly arrive when the chopper passengers woke up? how many movies are going to have most of their special effects be CGI? there were CGI aliens (basically, cartoon Aliens!) onscreen all the time. not at all realistic.
how could there be a government conspiracy, cover-up, and giant town destroying bomb so quickly after a couple hours of serious contact with the Aliens?
how clearly can the audience see anything when most of the fighting is at night, in the rain, and with the camera moving so fast? ultra blurry action does not make a great fight scene.
why only one fucking predator? why didn't the original predator's self-destruct device go off at the beginning of the movie? what else was happening on planet Predator? was it not worth bothering more than one?
what else? that "relationship" between the hot girl and the main kid was so totally unrealistic i couldn't believe it. from my boyfriend's an asshole to hey i like you now, to hey let's spontaneously (though planned) sneak into the school pool (why?) so you can see me in my bikini/lingerie, and then be attacked by Aliens!
the only semi-humorous moment was when that lady gave the most cliched and obvious "line" in the whole movie. "the government doesn't lie". not only is that too naive to even believe an adult would say that, but it just sounds stupid and forced. no one in the theater laughed (of course).
as most movies nowadays, everything was rushed. the camera bolted from one angle to another. CGI filled the screen when something more complex than 2 people talking was filmed.
god damn, this was like species 3 or something. just really bad timing, writing, directing, special effects, tone, faithfulness to the previous movies, originality, creativity, and score. hey, borrow more sound effects from the original Predator why don't you? and the acting? i guess the actors did OK, but the film really could have used one C-list actor to support/carry the movie. was Jon Lovitz or Robert Wuhl so incredibly busy that they couldn't have come out for a couple weeks? and if AVPR took more than a couple weeks to film, then damn... i'm even more impressed at how stupendously inferior it is!
fuck. just re-living it makes my soul hurt.

I liked it. You all get worked up so easily. This is almost as rediculous as that time everyone got pissed at me for going on about verginal sacrifice and Eugenics (for any genetically inferior people who don know what that means KILL YOURSELF) Back on topic I thought it was a perfectly decent movie if lacking in any real theme.

This is an interesting issue worthy of a thread.Really what should be considered good genes?athletic ability?intelligence?special talents? or something else?Surely if you take the Nazi approach you must know Jesse Owens kicked their asses in Germany during the Olympics,so much for white superiority lol.One flaw noted with Eugenics however, the more one tries to push desirable traits, the less genetic variety we see. This may lead to things like diminished abilities to fight off diseases or adapt to the environment.Surely if you take this stance you considered the advantages of genetic variety?Unless you just want humanity to die off... I only saw the end of the original Alien versus Predator movie and it sucked. The chick was left standing there in the cold like its not in the middle of the arctic. That said movies seem more and more like they are made for special effects and nothing else.A shame things aren't well thought out anymore. What I wouldn't give for some decent cosmic or psychological horror.

thank you for reminding me of an essay topic i really wanted to delve into and then forgot about... the need for high standards. low or non-existent standards for our life, entertainment, behavior, achievements, and magic keep humanity in the quagmire of inferiority. only when we keep our standards up, expect good things and demand good things, can we rise above the natural inclination of mediocrity.
acceptance of this wretched world is a mistake that the successful black magician must avoid at all cost! (expect the full essay around February 1st in the new site update)
any genetic code tied to the Old Ones should be promoted. otherwise, let individuality reign...
believe me, the new one is worse! and yes, some non-special effects cosmic/psychological horror would be great. i heard The Mist was pretty good... did anyone see that? CGI is the death of great film making.

Venger As'Nas Satanis Cult of Cthulhu High Priest I can agree good traits are necessary to remain in existance.I dont think these genes should be chosen on the basis of race however.I feel certain psychological traits like artistic ability or even the tendency of certain individuals to seek some type of awakening or enlightenment may be necessary to humanity's future.Certain genetic markers can point these out.Unfortunately,in the human race they are far too few. Its like with CGI ,they feel as though they don't have to try as much. Many people hailed it as a good movie but I didn't like I Am Legend too much either. It felt too rushed and the end lacked great tragedy and uncertainty. (Sigh) Kinda why I don't go see movies often anymore.

any savior would have to understand man rather than judge him. if i can destroy the lesser gods, then i will. but for now, i will settle for escaping prison and teaching others how to escape.

You are so correct there Venger. I have been saying it and saying it....for every good movie they manage to turn out using this new tech ie: LOTR there seem to be hundreds of shitty crap ass movies made and it all removes the challenge of actually making a good plot. If you can always CG your way out of a craptastic plot then one is never really going to bother with quality. I am so turned off by the direction the movie business has been taking in general I am really not watching them the way I used to. Oh well, that leaves more time for evil magical experimentation!!!

I tried to fix my quote....but alas I am the aforementioned technoweenie! So sorry for the slaughter there Venger.
I agree with you btw... Eugenics was proven to not work by the Egyptians.....the Nazis really did not get it right either....diversity is best. More choices are always better than fewer.
I think that is true on a magical perspective as well. I always want more choices and points of view. Stagnation is for others, not for me.
I also agree with the notion that you are fulfilling a most important magical purpose and once again I hail your efforts Venger.

Who even bothers to watch all those shiny new hollywood blockbusters? There are zillions of films released almost daily on DVD and cinemas that are actually worth seeing...

I just watched AVP2. I was a very "cool" looking movie. Too much hollywood flash for my taste.
I think that hollywood topped roughly from 1980 to 2000. In my taste anyway. I love the look and feel in films like the first Terminator. Guess its maybe just because i was a kid then. Im too old for AVP2.
New movies just feel like 90 minute commercials.
