Christ Illusion

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D <--- 6 out of 7 happy smileys.
I bought myself this wicked looking vinyl for Xmas.
According to wikipedia, "Christ Illusion" was meant to have been released on the 06.06.06. For various reasons this did not happen instead the EP "Eternal Pyre" was released in a small number as a taste of what was to come. "Christ Illusion" was then released on August 8, 2006. The album quickly got banned in India after some rallies against it. This was due to the wicked beautiful cover art, which was deemed "TOO BLASPHEMOUS" for the public. I guess the whole message of the album is proved true by those demonstrating against it; "RELIGION IS OBSCENE!"
We are a wicked species. The album is very anti-religious, i think they pull it off without sounding stupid and prejudice.
This is from wikipedia:
The song "Jihad" of the album Christ Illusion sparked controversy among families of the September 11 victims. The song deals with the attack from the perspective of a religious terrorist. The band stated the song is spoken through perspective without being sympathetic to the cause, and supports neither side. Seventeen bus benches promoting the album in Fullerton, California were deemed offensive by city officials. They felt the Antichrist and skull were inappropriate, and felt the name "Slayer" pertains to a murderer. City officials contacted the band's record label and demanded that the ads be removed. All seventeen benches were removed.
In India, the album was recalled by EMI India after protests with Christian religious groups due to the nature of the graphic artwork. The album cover was designed by Slayer's longtime collaborator Larry Carroll and features Christ in a "sea of despair", while having amputated arms, missing an eye, while standing in a sea of blood with severed heads. Joseph Dias of the Mumbai Christian group Catholic Secular Forum in India took "strong exception" to the original album artwork, and issued a memorandum to Mumbai's police commissioner in protest. On October 11, 2006 EMI announced that all stocks had been destroyed, noting that it had no plans to re-release the record in India in the future.
Excuse me but, LO(fucking)L!
Whats worse? The cover or the reaction? I think it is the last of the two. I really don't know what is worse, "THAT which is horrible" or our lack of understanding of it as a race. Is sanity not only a parody anyway?
About the album:
Its a good album. 6 out of 7 stars in my book, you'll have to be Viking Crown or something to get 7 ;D . Its only my third Slayer purchase in the (about) 13-15 years i have been buying music so far. Christ Illusion has a complete feel to it. In my opinion it doesn't sound like the band is slacking off at all. According to wiki, the bands contract only binds them for ONE more album, and singer/bassist Tom Araya has said that he don't see himself doing this kind of work in the future, so perhaps we will soon only be able to look back at SLAYER as one of the great metal legend bands of the past. Who knows, maybe they'll keep on rocking, like Lemmy and the crew. Anyway, the album does not give me the impression that it was done in a haste to get it done with. It is the kind of album where i always listen to it all the way through once i have put it on, but perhaps that has something to do with the vinyl format. SLAYER have never been my first choice when it comes to metal, but who can disagree that they are a force to be reckoned with? And they HAVE been that for a long time. Respect to SLAYER!
Here is a link to the video "Eyes of the Insane" from Christ Illusion, on the cool looking slayer.net site. I dont know why6 they picked that song to make a video for, it is one of the least hyper tracks.
(you will wanna turn off the audio player in the top middle of the screen)
