does anyone remember this mid 1970's weird science fiction tv show? it had some great ideas: dimensional gateways, a closed universe, ancient lizard/insect civilizations, time travel, alien visitors...
seasons 1 and 2 were the strongest, season 3 is widely regarded as sucking ass. that's when they brought plot hooks like the medusa and the flying dutchman in.

Yeah man, that was a pretty wild show!Being so young, I was quite creeped out whenever the Sleeztaks appeared. You would hear them hissing before they even came on screen.I always anticipated this and got an erie feeling.I'm planning on buying them on DVD.

I saw this show in its second airing, when it was re-aired in the mid-1980's on CBS. Apparently, it was the only Kroft-produced show to be re-aired on network TV, apart from syndication.
I once made my brother laugh, when I suggested to him that they should no longer call the "Lost City" in the show the "Lost City" ----since technically it had now been "found."
The young man in this series also starred in a rather sleazy seventies slasher film, entitled "The Toolbox Murders", which is now available in restored form on DVD. The nailgun murder scene, featuring Kelly Nichols, is indeed a classic.

yea the Sleeztaks were creepy but i was always fascinated with their use of power crystals to power whatever kind of technology that was in those capsules. Dont remember much about it as i was pretty young at the time when it aired in the 80s.

yes, the Sleestaks were creepy. the Altrusian race were hybrid insect reptile humanoids, tall and barbaric. although, they were not always like that. the shorter, tan skinned Altrusian named Enik was from the distant past. he was from a great civilization that new all about the universe, gateways of time and space... his people built the Land of the Lost.
the golden Pylons were bigger on the inside than outside. and most of them contained a matrix table filled with glowing crystals. these "nodes" could alter the weather, time/space doorways, day and night, and other things.
the show is now on DVD. maybe episodes can be rented if there's an agreeable DVD rental place nearby. i recommend watching it since many of the stories have great scifi ideas. Land of the Lost frequently dealt with the unknown and the fear that came with it. the program didn't feel the need to explain everything by the episode's end. sometimes the mystery of the Lost City and the Pylons was preserved.
occasionally, i've used elements of the Land of the Lost series in Call of Cthulhu rpg adventures. not exactly Lovecraftian, but sometimes it comes close.

Oh yes, I remember that show. I saw it from time to time and it had its moments...
Of course, I was a lot younger at the time, and just watched the show for entertainment. Occasionally, I could pick up on the "deeper meanings" and messages the show was trying to get across, but mostly, I just liked the dinosaurs!
