I felt like they left out alot.. but I found it amusing (or should I say a disgrace) when the actor playing Wilbur Whateley held his hands too his head like this picture of great aleister crowley

They showed this at the HPL film festival two years ago, I think, and I thought it was a more accurate representation than some other 60's movies such as "The Crimson Cult," which was based on "The Dreams in The Witch House." On that note, last year's HPL film festival showing of Stuart Gordons "Dreams in the Witch House" was great... definitely one of Gordon's more accurate Lovecraft portrayals.

well, this is just my opinion... but i think it's a great film. even if this movie had nothing to do with HPL, it would still be an interesting and amusing portrayal of warlock seeking a virginal sacrifice. the fact that it loosely follows the HPL story, "The Dunwich Horror" makes it even better.
there's a certain amount of cheesy 70's charm which adds and subtracts from the film itself, however, Dean Stockwell turns out a profound peformance... even if he does look mostly human!

I saw this film on DVD recently and was pleasantly surprised. It certainly ranks among the best HPL adaptations I've seen.
There are many reasons to like it, and it can be enjoyed on many levels: as a Lovecraft film, as an exploitation film, and as a seventies horror film. The sets for the Whatley house are excellent, if not entirely faithful to the story, and the images of the ruins, with their statues of dancing, unknown deities, are very suggestive and incredible.
The centerpiece of the film, however, is the truly excellent murder scene, in which Wilbur's twin "brother" escapes his room and kills Sandra Dee's rather stuffy girlfriend. Truly wonderful, and a natural progression from the equally-good, if less transdimensional, shower scene where Marion Crane is murdered by Norman Bates in Psycho.

I just saw this for the first time and loved it. I highly recommend for movie fans.
Sandra Dee was one hot looking sacrifice too.

I am absolutely in love with this movie. I really hate Dean Stockwell as an actor, but he did a great job in this film.

I just wish they would have made a sequel..like when Sandra Dee gives birth to the baby she is carrying at the end. Or something along those lines. When the Stars are Right!
