*LMFAO* HA HA HA HA!!!
Me and my friend, known as The Abe-Monster...(seriously, the motherfucker is HUGE)
...have a different view on Cthulhu as everyone else here...
...WE think he's Ultimate Evil in physical form...
...others think he's, "not so bad"...
..."not so bad"...
...honestly...
...might as well castrate him.
ANYWAY!!!! Here's our poll, let's see what you all think! *LMFAO*
'Cause when we say, "Cthulhu".
We take it seriously.

I chose a sleeping power waiting to be unleashed.Like the nuclear bomb, one can hardly call it "not so bad" or evil but that shit is very very destructive. Its as evil as the motherfucker pushin the button for this example.Damn sure doubt ull castrate atom splitting power taking out miles and miles of life and anything else.
Non theistic i have no uses for gods, but as far as symbols ,Cthulhu's a powder keg waiting to devastate when it goes off,at no set time to no one's knowledge. The greatest fear of mankind, not knowing what, when or where, just that some shit is goin down and its gonna be massive.Makin us like rats trapped in a multilayered glass cage bound to drop off a 10 story building.
Yeah Lovecraft had some pretty potent symbols.Without a doubt

Evil is too small a word. HE is above and beyond evil.
HE just IS.

nice poll.
i chose the "last remnants of a savage age" option because the Ancient Ones are from a time forgot and They are a ruthless and chaotic breed. Their influence has made man evil in a noble, instinctive, pure way. the paragon of animals.
not that i'm denying the possibility, but how can you call Cthulhu ultimate evil in physical form if he doesn't have a physical form? at least not a corporeal state that we can know...

This is a good analysis indeed but it mayde me wonder if we couldn't stretch it a bit.Beside there is alwys a possibility of these remnants sort of resurfacing in some form or another periodically right?Kinda why I have to say it is somewhat simple to say Cthulhu can go be viewed both ways simultaneously.I don't feel evil is an accurate term simply because Cthulhu predates the idea of evil period. As huscarle said,he just is .
Although I am fairly certain of one fact, you have to be fairly mad in a way to have scryed such an avatar of primitive ruthlessness and massive potential power.Even if it makes you somewat of a visionary if not a horrified genius

very interesting. I love watching man in his agenda to understand all. there is nothing wrong with it, its simply a form of perfecting ones self. a little arogant, but arent we all? my point is that one cannot define or describe the meaning or presence of somthing "living" on a totally different plain of existance so vast and impossible to understand that it makes the cliffs of maddness look like a flowery medow, you know the ones with little talking disney animals and other food stuffs....anyway don't forget that what He means to you isnt neccesarily what He is. also I'd think him more of the Man looking upon ants scenario. not "evil", just has better things to think about. oh how hypocracy makes me smile. ;D

I love the response we've had at all...and I'm glad there was no vote for the "he's just a cute cuddley squiddly thingy", though I'd be quite amused if someone had *LMFAO* Smart asses live everywhere *L* Anyway, I like Huscarles point...where in fact he just IS. In fact, I do believe that is the best way to describe all of The Ancient Ones. And yes sxt701, trying to describe such a being is infact, rather futile, but not impossible. But it does give us a good stand point on the paradigms of the congolmerate here

I understand your point completly. but I still think its just not good enough to try to describe any of them. its like seeing the moon and calling it a circle. it sounds good on paper, but in reality its so much more than that.
