just watched this 1966 spaghetti western gem last night. it stars Lee Van Cleef and it's a terrific film. while watching, my fellow desperadoes and i noticed many Star Wars parallels. for instance, the protagonist is a near perfect hybrid of Luke Skywalker and Han Solo. one can also pick out Vader, Obi Wan, and other similarities.
if you're going to steal, then steal from the best. Day of Anger might be the reason that the original Star Wars movie is so great. why couldn't you have borrowed more from the spaghetti western genre, Lucas?!?
the film was resurrected for DVD by Wild East. i've heard it's out of print, but you can still buy it on amazon. perhaps it's also available for rental at some places...?

I thought he'd nabbed the idea for Star Wars from Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress.
That Day of Anger looks like a mean film. Lee Van Cleef films are dead certs. I'll look out for it.

yeah, i've heard that George Lucas borrowed from a number of sources... Japanese films, spaghetti westerns, the Golden Bough, the legends of King Arthur, Issac Asimov... and the list presumably goes on.
and yes, Lee Van Cleef is one of the coolest actors ever. i think the first time i saw him was in Escape From New York, but then i was really blown away by his performance in The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly.
