Not everyone knows that The Haunter of the Dark is part of a Trilogy.
The Trilogy goes
1. Shambler from the Stars by Robert Bloch (1935) - Where a "nameless pulp fiction writer" (implied to be Lovecraft) is visited by a star vampire and killed.
2. Haunter of the Dark by Lovecraft (1936)- Robert Blake (implied to be Robert Bloch) killed by Haunter of the Dark & History of the Shining Trapezohedron.
3. The Shadow from the Steeple by Robert Bloch (1950) - Events that occurred after the Haunter of the Dark & what happened to the Shining Trapezohedron following Blake's death. Lovecraft was written into the story as a real character, and as if the events in the story were non-fiction.

The fact that the events were written as though they actually happened makes me wonder if they could be verified somehow. I wonder what would the overall implications be if these writings were proven to be more than the simple writings of a pulp fiction author from the early 1900s. Even for us it would alter how we approach the whole concept of what we are doing and how we are practicing our magick.

If these events were proven real . . . humanity would have much to fear, and us cultist would have much confidence that we have chosen the right gods to side with lol. A very interesting side note is that these events did NOT take place in Arkham, or other made up places. The Haunter of the Dark took place in Providence RI. And the Shining Trapezoid was thrown into the darkest channels of Narragansett Bay. Another very real location.

I wonder if there ever was a church on Chapel Hill like the one described. If a coverup did occur we may only be able to prove it through old pictures of the area. possibly land surveys too.

I don't see a Chapel Hill in road island, but Lovecraft could have just changed the name of another location. If I get bored one day, I'm just going to cruise around providence on google maps and look for a church on a hill to research.
