So I've been reading the CoC writings and I find it pretty agreeable and positive! I would really like to pursue this mindset, and reduce my suffering.
I have a small problem, which may sound silly or stupid, but it is a problem for me, and I would like to hear the general cultist response.
I've noticed that a lot of the CoC doctrine involves dark landscapes, and becoming a horrid tentacle monster. While I'm down with being a monster (especially a tentacle monster, as I study both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu), there is a lot of darkness, dark times, dead skies and black suns. I'm kind of lame, in that I like plain blue skies with a few dawdling clouds, and relaxing on grassy green hills bathed in a gentle sun light with a cool west wind. While I definitely share the large majority of the outlook, in my relaxation I'm closer to winnie the pooh than nyarlathotep.
Will this preclude me from being a good cultist? Like I said, I know this sound silly, but it is literally the only hang up, and is the proverbial pea under my mattress.

Hello Lordgorlock,
That's not a silly question. To make it short, why darkness and slimy monsters instead of refreshing landscapes ? Because of some core basis of the cult :
1) "Reality", what we perceive through our senses, is an illusion. 2) the Universe is our enemy, trying to make us suffer.
As written in "Cthulhu cult" : "The light strives to make this illusion real. In darkness, Cthulhu Cultists shall have reality naked and exposed." In darkness as you don't see with your physical eyes this fake universe, you are free from some illusions.
3) A Cultist cherishes the Void. Pure black is His color.
Do you know about the Void, the Formless Black Essence ?
Beside that, loving blue skies and grassy green hills would not precludes you from being a good cultist, and it's definitively not an obligation to share the aesthetic tastes for tentacles and black suns.
Thanks for this question, it had to be explained.
Awake !!!

I myself find fantasy worlds more appealing than H. P. Lovecraft's worlds. I see it more as whatever aesthetic is not only more appealing but more helpful for your self development. In essence, whatever helps you reach your 'Zen' state.
That being said I like what Yrreiht posted. And sometimes a dark or creepy setting can show us things about ourselves we didn't notice in a comfortable environment.

So I've been reading the CoC writings and I find it pretty agreeable and positive! I'm sure VS would take that as a compliment. The mindset doesn't lead to the reduction of suffering, well it does, but I'm not for sure you mean the kind of reduction in suffering the mindset leads to. It's the kind of reduction in suffering you get when you're fat and you get in shape. It requires effort and suffering but after awhile you can handle the exercise required. It becomes normal. But it doesn't end there... when we reach a goal we set another. If it's fruitful or pleasurable, it's the Way. Yes, but only because you didn't ask questions about the reasoning or practical reasons for the asthetic. I get it if you're not into it, but there's a deeper psychological reason for it that can be utilized without that specific aesthetic.
