I've been waiting for it to come to redbox and I finally got it yesterday. I have to say that The Lords of Salem left me completely underwhelmed. After seeing Zombie's other films I expected so much more from this one. The opening sequence flashback and the other flashbacks were pretty interesting and there was some dark, twisted imagery at a few spots but the film should have been a short or told from the perspective of the author that was a guest on the radio show. The film could have switched between him researching a book and the story unfolding with the descendants until they intersect at a later point in the movie. As it stands, The Lords of Salem is nothing more than a retread of Rosemary's Baby. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.

Did you read my review of it? I saw it in the theater months ago and was not at all impressed.

Yeah, I read it. I was hoping it was just a matter of different tastes. At least I only spent $1.20 to rent it from the redbox. Awake!

Brother charlie_warren
I also must say, that as a horror film, Lords of Salem didn't leave much of an impact, and it's overall aesthetics and imagery (at times very good in my opinion) had more of an art film(ish) feel to it. I actually watched it with a friend and we came up with rather different interpretations of it. I summed the film as "Satan's birth video (?)", and my friend saw it as a collection of drug abuse induced, schizophrenic episodes of the main character.

Yeah, an "art film" instead of a horror film is a great way to describe it. Also, there is quite a bit of merit for the idea that the film is a reproduction of drug induced, schizophrenic episodes of the main character. Actually quite an interesting take.
