As I am sitting here with nothing to do, but think, I was wondering what hidden mysteries there are to be discovered in sound and music. Could this be a source of powerfull magick if used correctly?? First I shall share some of my thoughts, and I would like to know what you guys think...and help me discover its true nature.
I finished my 3rd Year of Sound Engineering last year, majoring in Production and arangement. This required me to think about the structure of a song, the layers of instruments and sounds, what effects where being used, when was the climax in the song and where are the low points.
I at some time said in the class that sound/music is a "sympathetic vibration which stimulates an emotional vibration". Needless to say, I didn't realize the gravity of my statement.
Lets break it down:
1. Definition of sound is
a. Vibrations transmitted through an elastic solid or a liquid or gas, with frequencies in the approximate range of 20 to 20,000 hertz, capable of being detected by human organs of hearing.
b. Transmitted vibrations of any frequency.
c. The sensation stimulated in the organs of hearing by such vibrations in the air or other medium.
d. Such sensations considered as a group.
2. These frequencies get compiled together to form notes. Although an A note on a Guitar won't be exactly the same as a A note on Piano. The reason for this is the Timbre of the instrument.
timbre - (music) the distinctive property of a complex sound (a voice or noise or musical sound. Though they share the fundamental frequency (A = 440 hz) the way the instrument is built and played gives off subtle vibrations of other frequencies called overtones.
All music is build up of chords and scales. Chords themselves are actually build out of scales. Scales are intervals of notes which are actually intervals of frequencies.
I have noticed in songwriting and in meditation/ritual that music could have interesting results. Say for instance that I am doing a meditation on that path the Alhazred walked to discover the powers of the Old Ones. I would use music that has a middle eastern/arabic feel/sound to it. It enhances my visualiztion of these event, because of the sympathetic link to those lands.
I'm sure everybody has a song that makes them feel powerful, or sad, or whatever. The fundimental is that is stimulates emotion. And emotion could be used to accomplish some amazing things.
It is my belief that the Universe was and is created by sound vibration and that it can be used to shape reality.
Every organ in your body has a resonant frequency. If a frequency would be played loud enough to make it resonate, it could explode. (thas how the exploding glass trick works as well as the "brown" note myth goes.)
Vibration can be a powerfull tool. I have noticed that a lot of occult teachings use vibration. ie. Crowleys Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram. You don't say Agla. You vibrate AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Also vibrating Runes have some interesting results.
This in turn helps you feel your body resonate and empowers your energy field around you.
Now I get to the point...
Could vibrations of certain intervals / scales have hidden power? Is there an untapped link between sound and magick? Could this make the process of Awakening much easier?
your thoughts plz
(If a tree falls in a forrest, and there is nobody to hear it,...does it make a sound?I say Yes and No, Yes because everybody accepts it will make a sound. No, because the definition of sound is a Human thing, If there was no person to percieve it between the frequency range of 20Hz and 20kHz, there was no sound.)
