Anyone here ever come across any anime or manga that was inspired by Lovecraft? The most famous I know of are by Junji Ito, but there is an anime show that butchered his works called Haiyore! Nyaruko-san that if Lovecraft saw, he would start screaming and crying.

[teal]Not really. For the most part the Japanese entertainment industry in the last decade or so has degenerated into a bunch of corporate shills catering to the sexual fantasies of the Otaku community. They make what sells, and what sells is cute young girls doing cute things. Apart from that, the other facets of the industry are equally cancerous.
In my opinion, the best handling of Lovecraftian themes in modern culture is the prominence of the Mythos in Doom metal bands, such as Asunder.[/teal]

Brother emery89 From my own experience, I cannot recall any manga or anime, which is Lovecraft inspired/related per se, but there are some stories with a rather strong Lovecraft-type-of-vibe to them - or at least that's how I've felt them. From the top of my head I can come up with two titles, that gave me the fore-mentioned vibe: Hellstar Remina: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellstar_ReminaMushishi: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MushishiThe first one is hands down one of the best non-Lovecraft-influenced cosmic horror comics I've read so far. The second is more of a episodic fantasy tale, but the main 'creatures' of the story inspire some rather disturbing implications when you think about it.

Demonbane. Be wary of the games since they are erotic visual stories. The anime, however, is uhhh fun. There are mechs and a few of the horrid, unspeakable books in the Lovecraftian Universe are lolis. Nyarlathotep is a buxom librarian. Give it a shot.
