It's been a long time coming... the first ensemble superhero film. Plus, Joss Whedon wrote and directed it. Seeing it tomorrow. Can't wait.

So fucking awesome! About 2 and a half hours of superhero coolness. Great script, actors, performances, special effects, and direction.
If you haven't seen Iron Man I and II, Thor, Captain America, and one or the other Hulk movies, then the full scope might be diminished slightly. Not that you need to see them all to enjoy The Avengers, but it helps. Actually, the Hulk films are probably the weakest link and least essential (this is the third actor to portray Bruce Banner). If you're familiar with the old days of Marvel comics, then no backstory needed.

Sounds awesome, Brother Satanis! I have been waiting for this for awhile myself. The "Avengers: World's Greatest Superheroes" cartoon that is on Netflix has kept me on the Avengers hype for months! I did not care for the Hulk movies much either; they were not bad, when compared to the other solo "Avengers" films, they are seriously lacking.
Did the ensemble work well together? I was worried that they might have trouble because all of them are such good leading players that having to share the spotlight might hurt their collective performances. By your critique, it seems that this was not the case.
Did they only work with the Loki storyline, or did they bring Hydra into the mix as well? If you have not seen the new "Avengers" cartoon yet, check it out. It is so close to the original comic books, it is not funny. They combined the Loki, Hydra, AIM, and Cosmic Cube storylines into one and did it fantastically! Thanks for the review!

I saw all but the Hulk re-boot, I'm only somewhat familiar with the comic series on the Avengers, but my uber-geeky boyfriend filled in the gaps for me.
The Avengers was quite awesome. I'm a big fan of the Hulk and wasn't disappointed. The actor (Mark Ruffalo) that played Dr. Banner did a bang up job. I just couldn't bring myself to watch the Hulk Re-Boot with Edward Norton. Something about Norton cast as Bruce just didn't sit well with me. But Mark? Perfect!
One of the elements I really liked was how the struggle was portrayed for the Avengers to come together as a cohesive unit. The rib-jabs among characters was worth a snicker. Such as Iron Man calling Captain America 'Old Man' because of his 70+ year bout in the iceberg. Stark comes off as a megalomaniac at times but in his character development his relationship with ole Cap' brings out his humanity. Stark saved Captain America from the iceberg but salvaged the Tesseract as sort of a minor foot note in the moment. Kind of ironic huh? Ha!
There were quite a few funny bits. I was dying when Thor and the Hulk come together to fight, they whoop ass together and then the Hulk punches him just for the principle of the thing. Goodtimes! If you don't remember the tv series (or movie Return of the Incredible Hulk), it added some awesomeness to that dynamic!
Then the HULK SMASH!
Loki tries to break bad, "Enough! Kneel! I am a Demi-god!" The Hulk wipes the deck with him and then "Psh, Demi-god" haha! EPIC!
Green is the power of MIGHT!
Loved it!

Big Avengers fan myself-At the risk of sounding like a complete fanboy, I gotta give credit to writer and director Joss Whedon, also the creator of my all-time favorite TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer(also co-wrote "The Cabin in the Woods, a fun horror flick that plays with the conventions of the horror film) for the quality dialogue and snappy one-liners.

Each member of The Avengers, represents each individual person on this path, in that we know who we are, we have strong magnetic personalities, know that we the best in anything we give our all.
Working as a group or team like the Avengers is what people on the LHP/Occult/etc paths should strive for.
One must learn to work as a unit to meet certain objectives.
I understand how hard it must of been for each Avenger to be logical and work out problems constructively as a team unit (and/or be a supportive team member, instead of hogging the limelight etc).
Learning to work cohesively in a team/group dynamic, where everyone is basically GOD is where most group/units fail
This also is applicable to all belief systems.

The while you were sleeping conversation!!!!
LMFAO!!!! ;D One of the best comedic scene in a movie ever!!!!
The multi-way hero smash up? AWESOME!!!! ;D
The weak links of an awesome film.
Scarlett Johanson as Black Widow Jeremy Renner as Hawk Eye and their storyline.
She just wasn't believable and feel like she is still trying to grow into her role.
For someone who uses psychological warfare on people and is damaged goods and trying to wipe the slate clean, she should have been one of the few that was very close to understand LOKI fully.
Pitty, this obvious part got overlooked.
Jeremy Renner, I felt just slept walked through the whole movie.
Ruffalo was a good Hulk/Banner, just wished that it was Edward Norton playing that part as the banter and chemistry between them would have been electrically awesome!!!!
The climax was a bit of the yawn, due to the PC inserting screen time for each character which I felt had a very crammed in feeling.
I am writing this after two months digestion of watching it, this includes watching it for the second time

I have to agree with you there, I was a Buffy fan for a while until the writing went off in a direction that seemed to diminish the series. Not sure if he had assistant writers but it made me stop watching the series.
Joss did an excellent job with the writing here. Speaking of Cabin in the Woods, I have a blog dedicated to it on the Social Network if you want to check it out.

I am bit of an all-around geek (fantasy, comics, science fiction, you name it), so I was very excited when people started making GOOD superhero movies again. I was thrilled when I first heard about the Avengers movie and I was sure to see it when it hit the theaters.
I absolutely loved it, it didn't disappoint me at all. It actually exceeded my expectations. I was surprised at how balanced the movie was between all the different heroes. Even Hawkeye (one of my favorites) had his moment to shine.
I can't wait until Iron Man 3 comes out. I heard that a second Avengers movie will be made as well within the next few years.

@master Cora'Sahn: Ah yes-As someone who has spent more time on Buffy-related fan forums than I care to admit, I know that the question of the quality of the later seasons of Buffy is a contentious point to say the least. Opinion seems to be especially polarized regarding season 6(the season with Buffy's kinky relationship w/Spike, Willow's "magic" addiction and subsequent metamorphosis into an vengeance-mad magical badass, Xander/Anya's disastrous wedding etc). I actually like it quite a bit(it did have the musical episode after all), but will be the first to admit that at times the writing was less than subtle, to say the least, in this season.
