Beauty !
When forging your soul, you will hardly underestimate the importance of aesthetic sense, of beauty. This is the expression of the highest emotions.
Isn't it well known, universally admitted, that the real artists are perceiving things beyond the reach of ordinary humans ? And what it is to be noble ? Since the middle-age, aristocracy of every country defines itself as a connivance of aesthetes, protectors of the arts, with a pleasant indifference to the vulgar. Raw strength and properties obviously where not a justification for their status...
Girard Haven (in : Creating a soul) told us about art :
« Regeneration is possible for everyone in the Fellowship. By studying how it is done in art, we will have a better understanding of how to achieve it in ourselves. We become our own art form, and if we sincerely try to construct ourselves in the beautiful image of higher worlds, we may attract the miraculous connection between ourselves and the Higher Forces. Thus, there comes a time when work with impressions becomes more than a tool to help us measure and direct our progress; it becomes a vehicle for making the efforts necessary to achieve our aim. »
Plotinus had something to say, too :
« If you do not yet see your own beauty, then act as that sculptor who desires to create a beautiful statue. (S)he scrapes the clay here and there until it is smooth and perfect. Once (s)he has smoothed out the surface and cleaned off the outer form, the sculptor chips carefully to reveal the beautiful face of the statue. In like manner you may also remove that which is superfluous, straightening out what is oblique, purifying all that is dark until it shines, and then you will not cease carving your own statue until the Divine Virtue shines clearly from you. »
Beauty may be a powerful motivation and a useful tool ; once recognized that "good" and "beautiful" are the same, on any circumstance you may choose the nice attitude if it's more easy or convenient to you than trying to find the right attitude.
Every 4th Way student should become an artist ! But don't worry you do not need to be a great artist, what is important is to appreciate and to recognize art as a message from a higher level. The "Your artwork and fiction" section of the forum is here for a reason... And if, as me, you reveal yourself as a ridiculous painter then try poetry or something else, and most of all be a soul artist. Cultist, BE your artwork !
The god we worship is our future selves.
