I have read several more recent grimoires and I think it's interesting to note that the fourth way has evidently "come out of the closet" so to speak as many of them talk about "awakening" and getting more in touch with your "higher self." Further review however, would suggest that this has been a very old occult subject dating back to perhaps even Renaissance days and the connection is very interesting to note. As such, I believe that I'm taking the back roads on this one. But rest assured that I'll still get there!

I don't think its necessarily Fourth Way, the theme of 'awakening' was very strong during the Middle Ages. What makes up the Fourth Way, Gurdjieff begged, borrowed and stole from a myriad of places in the East, mixed with Western applications. I think what you are seeing is a trend in thought. In other words, you are seeing the grimoires influenced by this line of thinking.

"If we could see in a vision of expanded consciousness all our thinking throughout life and then in a second vision all that we have willed, we should be amazed at the difference."
Psychological Commentaries on the Teaching of Gurdjieff and Ouspensky, Volume 5 by Maurice Nicoll
The Fourth Way is an attempt to codify the first religion or the original understanding - unnatural glimpses of truth given to us by the Great Old Ones which burns reality away in aetherial green flames. That is why various branches of occultism, esotericism, and metaphysics are related - not only to each other but also to the Work which Gurdjieff pieced together. However, recognizing similarities is like an infant's crawl compared to the triathlon that is putting forth super-effort, doing the Work.
Concepts of the Fourth Way can be applied to virtually any spiritual path, even, to some degree, secular belief-systems. Mankind has always been asleep, just as there has always been a select few with the desire to Awaken. Are we not those chosen few? This idea is the origin of it all. Something which Cthulhu Cultists must never forget.

I concur.
It begs to question, how many have actually heard the call to awaken, and how many are just avid 'joiners'.
