And this has been my experience as well, which got me in to Reiki in the first place. While not a medical ritual, persay - its a healing ritual. I found the most positive results in those that I explained what Reiki was, in terms of psychology and ritual vs. claiming that I'm a conduit for some universal energy force; as taught in traditional Reliki. It was the ritual, for the most part, that allowed people to actually feel an alleviation in physical pain.
I'll be following this research. Thanks for posting it dude!

"Medical ritual" was a phrase that really jumped out at me too. Sometimes it's just nice to go to a doctor.

"Medical ritual" was a phrase that really jumped out at me too. Sometimes it's just nice to go to a doctor. I think it stems from security of believing you are in the hands of the professionals. You know it is, you have this weird pain or sickness and you think the worst. It can produce psychosomatic symptoms. Assure your mind, its all okay, and bam! You feel better, which is often why people don't feel the pain anymore when the doc says: "Now where is this pain?" And the patient may not feel it anymore.
