Hello! I recently Played a GREAT game called Cthulhu Saves the World! yes it really really addicting and is an Epic RPG well here some things about the game
-Its for PC and Xbox 360 -key-features Old school RPG style mixed with modern design sensibilities! - it has an 5-12 hrs quest/story so its no short game at all! Description about the game "source=steam" The lord of insanity, Cthulhu was all set to plunge the world into insanity and destruction when his powers were sealed by a mysterious sorcerer. The only way for him to break the curse is to become a true hero. Save the world to destroy it in an epic parody RPG journey of redemption, romance, and insanity!
also Does Anyone Played Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth?. its totally awesome + based on the book Shadow over Innsmouth.

I understand its entertainment value, I just can't understand the hours invested in playing very lengthy games. My son can play one game for weeks on end. I don't know how he does it.

It's all about immersion, the power of a game's immersion can be more potent than that of percieved reality, I myself am a gamer and invest rather a lot of time into my games, six hours a day on average. I find that they help me in some way, not just for their entertainment value, but the feeling they give can be almost spiritual in it's impact. I myself wouldn't be surprised in experiencing a powerful gnosis while gaming, as odd and nonsensical as it may seem to a non-gamer.

CStW sounds like a pretty cool game. Along with Cthulhu: DCotE. I should definitely look into those someday, especially since I remember really enjoying the Lovecraftian video game, Alone in the Dark, very much as a child and 19-year-old. ;D
