I am wondering if this emblem has been used in any previous cultures or groups. If you think it is please say what culture and what it means. I am asking because I would like to know if this was already taken. I thought and made this one but I think it is a reasonable possibility that someone has used it before. I really don't know where to find more information then on a forum since you can't really google with an image. Thanks. Attachments:

Erebos,
Where did you get this picture from, as I am having a bit of trouble researching the origins of it myself, so any other info you can give me on where you originally came across it. will be a great help.
From what I can get of the name of the symbol "EmblemSquare", assuming that is named correctly is that it is one of the symbols of freemasonary, but I have not come across it in this form before.

I thought and made this one but I think it is a reasonable possibility that someone has used it before. I didn't find this I created it myself, but my main question is has it been used before? Its a pretty simple design so I wouldn't be surprised to see it somewhere else. Its named emblemsquare because I have a whole bunch of other variations and configurations of the same thing and I didn't bother naming it something to specific. Also if this hasn't been used before I would enjoy help in naming what this could be called.

I would go with the "The Prosper", and in all the research I have done on symbols I've never came across this, go for it

If you haven't seen the CUBE series of films, I highly recommend them.

We are playing detective on the Paganspace thread, my comments throughout but some pretty good feedback there.
A more recent comment explores the idea that the symbol may be representative of a mental block you are having. Check it out.

Took me a while, but I finally figured it out. The PS thread was a great idea, but no leads there. I ended up finding it on an image search through google.
See the wiki page on Unicode: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicode
see also: unicode.org/standard/WhatIsUnicode.html
It's pretty universal and versatile, you can use it for just about anything in an occult context.
Enjoy

It doesn't matter if its been used before. You give it your own meaning and properties when you created it. Use it as you wish.

Agreed. However this user may have been concerned about the misappropriation. For example, look at how the Hindu sun-symbol had been used by the Nazis of the Third Reich, now no one remembers the original symbolism.
See: www.paganspace.net/forum/topics/polaris-1
It has also been used in Buddhism and Biblical parable.

That's true Priestess. The original meaning gets lost in the shuffle somewhere. I like the symbol and will incorporate it in my works. I guess any group can take something and twist it around and use it for whatever. Huh? AWAKE!

Exactly, and the more impacting belief tends to take over. In this case, the Swastika will always have the Nazi's attached to it due to their use and the events that followed cementing the meme. Even if the symbol was misappropriated and altered from its original form.
So, it may be the very reason that the origins are considered before personal use.

For a more recognized symbol like the swastika yes that is of course the case, but i think for lesser known symbols such as this one it might not apply. It still is better to learn the symbol to know its origins and past usages. However given in most cases one will find these are not always so loaded as a swastika you can still apply the sigil as desired. Especially if its for personal use and, as in most cases, is used in conjunction with other magical efforts i can't imagine any contention in it's properties.

It could be specifically tied to the person's preference vs. how it will affect others. For example if I chose to use this symbol myself, but used it for intentions opposite of a particular culture's usage - I may feel that usage is working against me, rather than for me. Make more sense?

I understand what your saying. I think i have over looked that the second usage may quite easily be of lesser effect and thus be rendered null. Better to work with the current then against. never the less i think a magi could easily highjack a sigil, so long as the previous usages, meanings, effects, properties etc. aren't held as current. what do you think?

I agree, I rob symbols and ideas from all over the place and use them for my own purposes. As a matter of personal interest, I tend to keep the culture's use in mind so I'm not ignorant of its origins but still choose to transmute it into something I can use and for my own purposes.
