Wow. That's a brilliant idea and I can respect the tactics used to recruit members in such a fashion. It's downright diabolical; I like it! Not sure how well that may work for the Cult of Cthulhu though, being as we do push the boundary on what is excepted within the LHP (i.e. honoring "fictional" gods) and I wouldn't try something like that without permission from Lord Satanis.
You definitely posses a lot of experience, Q'zbah and I respect that.
Ia! Ia! Cthulhu fhtagn!
Thanks Kai
The ONA has its odd aspects too. We have a group of beings we call the Dark Gods... except they aren't 'fictional' or symbolic. They are real "Things." This never was an matter because Kayla and Chloe have experience in business and they read all these books on marketing, advertizing, and NLP. So they developed a way of "germinating people" that works for us.
The first rule is to develop a Rapport with your target person. Rapport as in a friendship or relationship of some kind. This is where PM's and emails are used. 75% of our work happens in PMs and emails. Kayla say this is important because once you can Relate to someone and have a Rapport with them, you lose your ability to make your own decision or think for yourself or question them.
For example, if a stranger walks up to you and tells you a school bus fell off a freeway bridge and killed all the kids on it, you may not Believe them. But when a news caster you are Familiar with tells you the same story, you Believe them without question or without putting up much of a psychological fight... there is no resistance in other words.
Or another example is how Avon used Anton LaVey as a Rapport builder. What LaVey does in his writings is he presences a very normal and human side of him where he is himself informing you of his opinions about certain subjects via essays.
You read those essays, and if you Resonante with him, and you share some opinions in common with him, a Rapport develops between you and LaVey's persona... in other words, you now Relate to that persona.
This causes to say to yourself. "well, if he and I think alike, and he calls himself a Satanist... then that must be what I am too, therefore whatever else he has to say in the book as far as what a Satanist is, must also apply to me..."
The other psychological tactic Avon books uses or LaVey uses in the Satanic Bible is a method once taught in ancient China to political leaders.
"A good leader, leads without leading." He masters over people without mastering. He is unseen. Nobody feels his presence. He dictates without being heard in such a way that when people do what he says, the people reap the results and Believes it was they who thought of it.
The Satanic Bible never tells you to become a Satanist, or never asserts Satanism onto you. It gradually makes it that you end up chosing on your own to identify with Satanism... how? By Resonating with LaVey's persona... from the Rapport.
It makes it feel as if the choice was yours... those memes are implanted in your head by the book, but you don't notice, because when you have developed a Rapport with the persona, you let your guard down.
So Rapport building is the first step.
The second step would be feeling the target person's "aura" to figure out what kind of person they are... how they think... how they see the world... their insecurities, and so on.
When you learn what kind of person your target person is, you Shapeshift into the same type of person. This helps build Rapport.
For example if your target person is a mystic and highly emotional, you pretend as convincing as possible to also be a mystic and highy emotional. If your target person is an atheist, you morph into an atheist to. If your target is spiritual, you also become spiritual.
The next step would be learning how to Shapeshift your memeplex. In this case this would be what exactly makes the Cult of Cthulhu the Cult of Cthulhu.
So you would learn to deconstruct your memeplex into its basic memetic components. Then you learn how to resequence those basic memes into memes that causes resonance in your target.
For example, lets say you have a certain inclination for rebellion and anti-government sentiments. I would Shapeshift into the same kind of person you are, to develop a Rapport with you. This induces "Trust." This is a natural human-instinctive response, for us to trust our kinfolk and tribemate... those whom we are familiar with.
Then I would gather all my ONA memes I have and repackage them in such a way so that they hook you. In this example I would start telling you about how I also distrust the government, and how the State is an abstract "thing..." and so on, which are all ONA memes. But you never tell the target or ask the target to convert. You want to make it seem as thought he is in full control of his mind to make his own choices.
I would do the same with the Dark Gods. I would first gage what type of person my target is. If he is an atheist, I save the dark Gods for last and I repackage the dark God memes in such a way that they sound like archetypes and symbols of things.
I've been using this tactic for a year and a half in Mysatan, and every person I PM and am close to in Mysatan that I have developed Relationships with have all turned ONA/352.
This is where the next tactical step takes place. We have blogs...
I'll tell you why blogs are a useful tool over forums like these. We have forums too, but we hardly send our newbies there Until we know they have become one of us.
This is because people's guard goes up when they "join" something... even a forum.
Forums are closed up places. Psychologically these people feel enclosed, which isn't good. It also feels like they don't initially belong when they do join a forum. This is also bad because it disurpts Rapport.
So growing all of your memes inside a forum may be convenient to a group, but it is not good strategy.
A blog is open. Anybody can come and go as they please. Nobody has to sign up... people just click and read. So we save all of our Intellectual punch for the blogs.
After we have developed a secure Rapport with somebody, they begin to increasingly see things our way. This builds up their curiousity about you. They ask themselves what more you may know... what more your group may have to teach. You jyst give them a simple blog web address, or leave it on your profile even. They will go and read it, which is when the reast of the memes dig into their heads.
Then the next tactic we utilize is our written format.
Intellectual posts and imformative posts full of information and new ideas disrupt Rapport. Because our guard instinctively goes up as soon as we feel like somebody is trying to tell us what to believe and how to feel and how to live our lives.
We've learned to use a very different style of writing that enhances Rapport. Chloe is very, very, good at hiding memes beneath this writing style. It's an informal style where she dresses up ONA memes inside her own personal experiences.
If you have ever read her writings she structures her writings for maximal memetic impact by filling the first part of her writing with these stories that seem to have nothing to do with ONA or Satanism. In fact 90% of the time she doesn't even use the word ONA or Satanism.
Then in the middle of the writing she begins to break it down by softly interpreting those experiences and stories she has into perspectives, ideas, and ways of seeing things. This is wher ethe memes begin to be presented. Only in the last part does she present ONA memes breifly that relate to the topic she is writing about.
So the beginning of her weiting build Rapport ccausing the reader to let their guard down. They can Relate to her normal life stories. They think to themselves, "Yeah... that happened to me..." or whatever. Then she drops memes.
Also Kayla developed a style of written NLP which she taught Chloe and me and others.
It's a simple technique that works best with long posts like this one. If you have ever read their writiings on our blog or if you notice throughout this post here you will notice that I intentionally Capitalize words that grammatically shouldn't be capilatized.
If you look closely the words I capitalize are all trigger words that begins a meme I want to stick into your head. If you pay attention to yourself as you read long posts like this, you will notice that the further down you read and the more focused you are on reading and understanding, the deeper you go into a semi-hypnotic state... the kind of state of mind you go into when you are lost inside a song you like or when you are half zoned out watching TV.
In that state of mind, those capitalized words jomp out at you and stick into your mind easier.
So for example if we manufactured a meme about heaven being beautiful, like this "heaven is Beautiul" I would capitalize the B in beautiful. It causes the simple meme-gene <heaven is Beautiful> to catch better and emphesizes on something I would want you to dwell on: beauty being a condition of heaven.
HP Venger and all of the CoC's demagogues should figure out what are key memetic elements of the CoC memeplex. This way you can learn to break those memes down and reconfigurate them for specific target audiences.
Memes are like seeds. You dress them up right, and plant them in Minds that Resonate with its aura, and the meme naturally grows in their heads.
We use to go around recruiting people. But they Kayla and Chloe developed all these tactics and we stopped even bothering recuiting or converting. We just now build rapport, shapeshift, and write loaded blogs
