Well I learned that consuming a lot of protein means your body will burn more calories digesting it. So on training days, I make it a point to consume a ridiculous amount of protein, so not only will most of that protein go to make more muscle, but I will also burn more calories digesting said protein. For example, today was gun day at the gym where I trained my arms and my abs. And I've consumed just a little shy of 180 grams of protein so far.

By the way, I recently tried this new high-protein buttermilk pancake mix. It's awesome! I've been eating blueberry buttermilk pancakes every other day. Definitely going to be a great summer.

Thank you for the tip Master Satanis. I've added it to my wish list for future reference...

By the way, it recommends using water to mix with the pancake mix powder. I did but soon found that skim (fat free) milk yielded better results. I buy organic milk even though it costs more.
Also, I've been using Smart Balance instead of natural butter. Smart Balance is 50% real butter and 50% olive oil. Not as bad for you, tastes just as good, and actually cooks slightly better.

Really? Noted and logged Master Satanis!
Almost forgot to mention, these days instead of eating three "feasts" every day, I tend to eat 4 or 5 smaller meals. This keeps my metabolism up and running and causes me to burn even more calories... Instead of a full meal, I tend to think of eating now as a "re-fueling stop" so to speak...

I concur on Smart Balance, I buy it myself and have been using it for over a year.
Any tips for women? We have slightly different physical needs. I've dropped a few pounds over the winter with all the working out and such but I feel I have a way to go before I'm happy with my figure. I've put on a few pounds over the last couple of years, and its perplexing me because I'm active and have good eating habits. I'm told it's age, and typical for women to gain in areas they did when they were pregnant (which seems to be the case with me). I'm 130 lbs, but I feel like a skinny fat person.
A few years back I went to the gym, went a bit over board I suppose because my body started looking like a female body builder, very man-ish. So I stopped working out in the gym for a while and stuck to more cardio stuff. May be a contributing factor to the weight gain too, all the muscle turned to fat.
I'm at a loss with my diet too. Like I said, I eat healthy but maybe I'm eating the wrong mix of protein or something?

Like I said, I eat healthy but maybe I'm eating the wrong mix of protein or something? You are not alone. Many people feel "skinny fat". But thankfully, something can be done.
Every person is different, but from what I've seen, the whole female body builder / man-ish look is usually more of a false perception than accurate observation. A lot of women say they are afraid to incorporate weight training into their healthy lifestyle regimen because they don't want to look "too bulky" or "musclebound". However, let science assure you that for 99% of women your female genetics won't turn your body into The Hulk, no matter how much iron you pump or supplements you take.
Instead, the feminine form will only be accentuated. That's right, if you're naturally curvy, those curves aren't just going to go away. Smoothed out a bit, yes - but not gone! Here are some photos I found on the internet to better illustrate the situation.
This is what you don't want, but also, thankfully, what you don't ever have to worry about...

Looking at the image below, this is something you'd probably want to avoid (or maybe not). But again, this type of muscular development is genetically extremely rare in women - even those who spend years doing hardcore training, supplementation, and are on a super high protein diet.

These next two images are very likely to occur if you keep to a moderate weight training, heavy cardio/aerobic, and high protein, healthy diet. It might take a year or two, but hey that year is going to happen regardless.

Ok repeat after my dear "Muscle can not turn into fat because they are two diffrent forms of tissue and it is physiologically impossible for one form of tissue(Muscle) to convert into another form of tissue(Fat)". And thats the honest truth.

Well I'm not sure how to operate the webcam on this machine... If I knew that, I would send you the pics via Facebook as I'm not sure how to embed photos on this forum either... At some point, technology kind of left me behind!

If your like me, you know that many kinds of fish are an excellent source of lean protein but unfortunately dislike the taste. Breading and tartar/cocktail sauce make it better, but aren't the healthiest choices. The same with mixing tuna fish and miracle whip / mayonnaise.
Well, I just discovered something pretty awesome. I mixed a small can of tuna packaged in extra virgin olive oil together with a small can of tuna in water and then added a couple tablespoons of light Italian dressing. It actually tasted good. Good enough for me to eat by choice as opposed to choking it down merely because of its nutritional value.
In light of this recent finding, I'm going to incorporate this into my diet as a semi-daily small meal or snack. If tuna, extra virgin olive oil, and light Italian dressing aren't enough, then try putting it on some kind of cracker or bread. Speaking of which, I also buy Double Protein bread which tastes just like ordinary bread.
When you combine all this with stuff like high protein buttermilk blueberry pancakes, then it should become clear that healthy alternatives exist for almost any kind of taste. Have a craving for something detrimental to your diet? Post it and let's see what the forum members here can come up with!
