I just came from my philosophy class and right now we're studying post-modern thought. My professor decided that we should study Neitzche and it appears that he would agree with much of what this cult teaches. For example, he supports being yourself as opposed to a herd mentality.
Anyway, the real reason I thought to bring him up is, he stated that happiness comes from being able to live unhistorically. That is, to live in the moment. He further goes on to state why that is so by saying that living historically reminds you of who you are and all of the problems therein. Now, my question is, if we are really not who we perceive ourselves to be, could it be that by living "in the moment" so to speak, we could escape this false reality? I mean, we all have responsibilities, so I'm proposing a temporary forgetting of this reality as it doesn't matter anyway. In this way, you can become closer to the real you in this existential hodge podge of an existence. Just a thought. All comments are welcome.

Yes, Nietzsche was an influence on me just as he was on Anton LaVey and the Left Hand Path.
Self-remembering is the key you're looking for. We may all practice that technique in order to live in the moment, free and primal like the Great Old Ones.

Wow! That actually makes a lot of sense. I think it's also important to note that this is one of his earlier works. In theory, some of his later writings would also be important. When my professor made a comparison of humans (who live historically) and animals (who are free), I couldn't help but comment that while his description of animals explained all critters in a nutshell, it was dead on when it comes to my retarded cat... She's not too bright, but she is without a doubt, the most carefree and uninhibited creature I know!

Doesnt the bible talk about self remembering also? Just wondering but how can we practice this? AWAKE! Yes it does, in a fashion. You can practice it by observing yourself, as well as, your immediate surroundings. Once you've done that, try to also be mindful of The Work simultaneously. That is self-remembering.
