Not Metallica, but how about the band "Bal-Sagoth"
Their album, "The Cthonic Chronicles" is based on Lovecraft and Cthulhu.
Here's a cool song save for the unfortunate spelling of the title.

Nice taste in music, Symbolicone. Nile rules! George Kollias is an absolute machine on the drums. Karl and Dallas are insane players. I love their lyrical themes and 20 syllable song titles as well. Awake! Dark Prism

Well I got into Cthulhu because of Morbid Angel but now there's Portal from australia they take cthulhu influenced death metal to another level in respect to sound and look.
I actually debate cthulhu with their singer online, its been interesting.

Brother Inha Delgado Ot Anth Paz jeem I shall contribute to this marvelous thread by sharing the Lovecraft inspired music I know (and there have been some good examples already on this thread): Deathchain: Incantations of Shubb-Niggurath (album: Death Eternal): The Crawling Chaos (album: Death Gods): The Beyond (album: Death Gods): Howling of the Blind (album: Death Gods): Cthulhu Rising (album: Death Gods): Death Breath: A Morbid Mind (album: Stinking Up The Night): (a full LP album link - the actual song is between 16:46 - 20:40) Flabby Little Things From Beyond (album: Stinking Up The Night): Cthulhu Fthagn! (album: Stinking Up The Night): The Solstice Carol albums by H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society: A Very Scary Solstice and An Even Scarier Solstice. There are way too many good carols here so I'll just put here some of my favorites: Death to the World: The Carol of the Olde Ones: Harley Got Devoured by the Undead: Death May Die: I think the Carol songs can be understood just by hearing, but for other songs, I suggest darklyrics.com for lyrics.

the H.P.L. historical society also has a cast album of 'a shoggoth on the roof' which parodies a fiddler on the roof. also a band known as "the darkest of the hillside thickets" is pretty much all lovecraft inspired music. here's one of my favorites from them.
