I noticed something about the John Carpenter's "Apocalypse Trilogy" movies. We know that they all have Lovecraftian themes such as green slime, horrifying monsters/extraterrestrials, insanity, paranoia, etc, but there's another thing that seems Lovecraft-related about them. The titles. For example:
The Thing (The Thing on the Doorstep) Prince of Darkness (The Whisperer in Darkness) In the Mouth of Madness (At the Mountains of Madness)
I know some of these titles were used in In the Mouth of Madness, like "The Thing in the Basement" and "The Whisperer of the Dark," but still, is it just a coincidence that the titles are so similar and that they have these themes?

It's no coincidence. John Carpenter is a big fan and was influenced by H.P. Lovecraft. In fact in the Lovecraft books I just bought yesterday there are quotes from several horror writers including Carpenter on the first page of the book, concerning Lovecraft. Awake!

Agreed, John Carpenter is a big fan of such works...
And, his filmmaking style proves how equipped he would be to finally do that satisfying Lovecraft story adapt we've all been waiting for...

This trilogy--The Thing, Prince of Darkness, and In The Mouth of Madness--are among my favorites of Carpenter's movies. They are, in fact, some of my all time favorite horror movies altogether. Carpenter is a genius for the way he uses Lovecraft's ideas and making them his own in these movies, rather than trying to make some form of carbon copy that doesn't work.
