Here are my jottings and questions on my very first reading of a Lovecraft story, anyone feel free to comment or enlighten me further -- A Marsh daughter is described as ‘reptillian looking’- are there any similarities between Lovecraft’s and David Icke’s work? It is said that the islanders had ‘old charms to ward em off’- have any magickians tried charms to fend off the old ones or do we solely court them? Innsmouth= inn's mouth. The significance of alcohol in the story. Prohibition is in force at the end of the story, and it was a drunk man that told the narrator the truth about the town. How does alcohol fit in to the cult of cuthulu, is it somehow used? Has anyone ever tried to reproduce the jewellery?

I don't think anyone has linked the ideas of David Icke with HPL.
Though, I suppose, in Lovecraft's mythos the, 'threat' lies 'beyond Yuggoth' (Pluto), i.e. in outer space. And things, 'from the sky' feature in the mythos too. Maybe a bit of a leap to link that to Icke's alien reptiles?
I'd be interested to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

I will not answer about the cult's position, because I am not a member of it, but about the story, Lovecraft's choice of a drunk is because to him it is a symbol of decay. Lovecraft had an aversion for alcohol and even viewed moderate social drinking as a peril. (he wrote the story "Old Bugs" to support prohibition) Making a character alcoholic is a way to show him as broken, shaken beyond dignity. Of course, respecting Lovecraft's work doesn't mean imitating each of his opinions... especially considering that it's impossible: he radically changed his views on several topics in the course of his life. From what I saw here it seems like the cult encourages a personnal approach to spirituality, only providing with a general course and a favorable environment, and if you include drugs in your methods it is up to you to see if it helps or hinders you, though others will surely help you interpret your results if you need it. But someone in better position than me to answer that should be able to respond soon.
"Has anyone ever tried to reproduce the jewellery?"
I don't know about that, but if no and you want it bad enough to have it custom made, there is a very detailed description in the draft text of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth", published by the Arkham House in "Miscellaneous Writings - H. P. Lovecraft", though the text is probably somewhere on the Internet. If you are an artist or know one, you can try drawing from the description and ask a jeweler if it can be done (must be very expensive though!) However, except for the distorted tiaras, most of the jewelry would probably look like regular bracelets and torques, with exotic marine patterns. I don't imagine it would include brooches but for one who would like to wear nice yet eldritch jewelry, it's probably the easiest piece to have done.

Thanks for explaining that, I should've thought of that I spose I'll see if I can find anything a bit mariney in normal shops. The tiaras would be excellent to make though for a millionaire magickian (not me lol) although maybe it could be done with costume jewellery

that element probably did play a part. however, i think it's reasonable to assume that the things going on in Innsmouth were so terrible that only a drunk on a bender would be able to tell the tale.
this is another device HPL uses to show the reader just how awful something can be. the conscious mind shuts things out, either by a sort of repressed memory or fear of bringing it to mind (and telling a stranger). a drunk, on the other hand, can bypass the conscious mind and reveal the true hideous nature of Innsmouth's troubles.
if HPL was around in the 60's, then i'm sure he would have capitalized on the drug culture, allowing certain human beings "see beyond".
and as for deep one jewelry, i'm sure some exists. and you might be interested in the Cthulhu pendants i have for sale:
