Alright, I'm just making this thread because my last thread's discussion was on "HP Lovecraft's The Tomb," and I kinda got people off topic. So here's a thread on one of the best Lovecraft-based movies ever: "The Evil Dead."

In regards to Sam Raimi's groundbreaking horror film(and, his very first feature); it is by far one of the finest films to come out of the 80's. Utterly underated by the very people who say they're fans of Raimi's films - Seeing "SpiderMan" 12 times doesn't count as being a Sam Raimi fan, just saying.
And, while it does bear some connection to Lovecraft's style of story-telling; particularly his attention to gruesome and nightmarish situations...And, it does have the "Necronomicon" mentioned in the story...I'd hardly call it Lovecraft-based. More, Lovecraft-inspired; if anything...Though, it also have strong inspiration from George Romero's "NOTLD"; the late Bob Clark's "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things"; as well as a myriad of teens in danger in the woods movies that came out in abundence back in the 70's.
"TED" is stylish and terrifying, nonetheless...

Updates: Turned 16, and, just as I wanted, got my Necronomicon ExMortis! And, of course, I got the DVD with it.

evil Dead was fucken brilliant. It didn't really have the same idea of what the Necronomicon is as HPL did, but still certainly worth viewing.

I have got to see this.
Theres has been a lot of talk about it lately which leads me to believe that Sam Raimi may make Evil Dead 4.

It was at monster-mania con that i had the pleasure to meet Rob Tappert the guy who did the speacial effects and desighned the Necronomicon for the movies. he was supposed to introduce Evil Dead but brought with him a vhs of a bunch of the super 8 films that him Raimi and Cambell did in high school some really great stuff. any body really interested in evil dead should pick up Within the Woods. That was their test pilot for Evil Dead.
