I am very interested in learning more about necromancy. I am refering of course to divination through communication with the dead and the manipulation of "death" energies, to a point. Links to any helpfull sites as well as any comments and suggestions would be great, as well as any ideas of your own. Any starting point for rituals that don't involve digging up and then smacking around a corpse would be wonderful. I hope to eventually amass a collection of spells for the modern day necromancer to share with the rest of the CoC.

The sites provided are some of the better sights when you search for necromancy, thats only because the other are all in reference to video games.
Necromancy is a very diverse and incredibly manipulated practice. By our definition of magic the necromancy described on these sites is not going to hep you contact the dead. For necromancy to work all you need believe is that Sigils, symbolism, mantra, imagery and focus of will has the power to effect the subtle energies of our universe. The only other thing is that there are these energies, for necromancy life force and/or spirits and of course the opposite of that, called death essence. Alot of the necromancy you will found is based on people trying to reconstruct stuff from the middle ages etc. Thats why they require things like the body be placed in the pattern of Christ on the cross or something like that. This necromancy is merely ancestor worship, which has been effected by the belief and practices of Catholicism. Necromancy is really just ancestor worship, but rather used for sinister means i spose. Also you will find sights that what necromancers now do is is primarily summon demons. This sought of nonsense is also from the Christians, who believe that what necromancers are actually is evoking demons that act like human spirits.
The Necromancy i have started to experiment with has become distilled of the Christian influences, as it should be i feel. However if you are in theistic devil worship then by all means those other methods could work for you. These sought of decisions should come down to the individual.
I have started to develop some necromantic rituals and they have nothing to do with Satan really. The first one is decided to summon a protective wraith. It involves creating a ritual circle, i haven't got the image to show you but may in the future supply it. In side the magic circle you have the sacrifice. The circle is engineered to bind the energies into protective servitude. The ritual also requires a blade with specific runes craved into, or a note with the same runes placed in the sacrifice mouth. From there one simply kill the sacrifice. There a few other little things done, but they are like icing really.
Necromancy doesn't only deal with death summoning. the same circle also allows for a protective aura. This is done by using the death essence, released through the natural process of decay, and rotting. This ritual is very similar to the other, however you need only use fruit maybe. As it rots the spell take effect. These a re some pretty simple ideas. I have only just started to experiment with necromancy but i have plenty of experience in other magical areas so they should help you all the same.

I have sent spirits of the dead to torment people who mildly wronged me. It's just a matter of finding like-minded spirits. I would love to learn whatever techniques you discover, as necromancy plays a role in mythos, and me being a scorpio, sex and death are two of the most facinating things around to me!

The first step to learning necromancy is to get in touch with the energy (couldn't think of a better word than that) of death. How I started was to take a long dip in a bath full of ice and freezing water. After I could no longer take it I would lay in bed and not move for up to 2 hours. Meditate on the feeling in your arms and legs. Feel them shivering and trying desperately to warm up. A grim feeling will eventually come over you. It feels grim and cold, even colder than the water you left hours ago.
That might sound a bit vague, but it works.

I know what you mean about the death energy. I have come to call it death essence or Canak'kaiul(thinking about making that my wizard name), which means deathly essence. This Death Essence has been referred to a couple times, and is essential in most parts of necromancy. In my experience, it is produced upon the sacrifices death, and for a while after. I think of this like a smoke emanating from the corpse. At its initial death the would be a puff, then it continues to trickle out as the corpse decays. Thats the best way i can think to explain it. The way i use it is by killing the victim within a magic circle, the circle is designed to bind the spirit to what ever task i desire, or to bind the death essence to whatever task. However the death essence is not be confused with the soul of the creature. The death essence is much more like... qi. IMO the essence does on an astral level, what the corpse does physically. The corpse decays, caused by bacteria feeding of, also plants can draw nutrient from something dead. Well the Death essence works in a similar way. This is based my research into some older practices, and how they used death essence, the forces of decay and these sought of things. I then merely applied the same logic as people apply to other energies. I think it seems accurate.
As for the ice bath idea, i think it sounds worth while.
Also i have now killed for ritual. It was a mercy kill, really. But it served its purpose. Also the animal is a pest in the country, its not as though i killed some guy's dog. I will not be able to now the results for two weeks ruffly.

::::I know what you mean about the death energy. I have come to call it death essence or Canak'kaiul:::: Love the use of the green tongue Shaz'rahjeem!. I often go into woods with a heavy deer population and have found skeletons that helped as focuses. Once I even took the paw off this squirrel my dad shot while hunting, put it in a baggy full of salt, and it mumified it.. I used it as a death-amulet of sorts on my alter for awhile.. untill my wife threw it away when I was at work .. It looked like a little monkey's paw, it was a black squirrel so it was a nice color..

Its often hard to find someone who supports some of our practices, or even tolerate them in most cases.

Well Necromantic practices aren't evil nor good. They are as the entire universe is. Neutral and is only as you percieve it.
Through the dreams of death and the deaths to dream of wonders i have never seen through the dark veil of night neutrality is the true essence of dark and light.
I have been working for a little bit on this subject. I just dislike when they get all out of *Reality*... with the whole zombie stuff. I do like it in a sense of non conforming, even to our un awakened reality.
Just a slight opinion. Take it as you may. No harm done, no deed unpayed.
Ia! Canak'kaiul Ia! Kthulhu!

I agree that there is no good or evil, that is the nature of our subjective reality. As for the zombie stuff, i believe in reanimating corpses i have done it myself, last night... Please ahead of time no posts containing anything like this. If your even tempted, i shame you. The books I was looking at buying on the topic, just to see what other people are doing with necromancy have already let me down. i may still buy them one day but they are likely to just disappoint. Some people want you out doing stuff like digging up corpses in graveyards, mutilating remains, then sleeping with them . These sought of things can never really be taken seriously and only serve to slow the progress of our occult understanding. No book claiming to be an authority on an entire topic should $9.95, but i spose thats all their rubbish is worth.

There are a few books and websites out there, but you have to sift through the bullshit to get usefull information. We really have to forge our own path. I like to use Donald Tyson's Glyphs, which are found in his books "Familiar Spirits" (Highly Recommended) and "Grimoire of the Necronomicon"(some goody BS, but worth it, has Glyphs of some of the A:O). Those Glyphs are ment for inhuman and servitor type spirits, but one thing I JUST thought of last night was to use them on EXISTING spirits of the Dead.. I was thinking about creating one for my grandmother, who was open spiritualy, and give it a shot. I don't have time today (work) but it is something i am going to give a shot at. I like the Glyphs because not only do they discize the letters used in the sigilized word or name, but they make interesting pictograms that have a very tribal feel to them.

necromancy... using the power/energy of the dead? let's talk about petrochemicals! stuff made from oil, that is to say, the putrefied remains of trillions of plants, animals, insects, and all their blood, piss, and offal.
extract the black, stuff from deep within the earth (watch out for the deadly poisonous gases!), refine it through various complex techno-rituals and you have petroleum. now you can fly through the air in jets, speed across the land in a car, make beautiful clothes from fibres synthesized from petroleum, you have magick lights in all the cities, and plastics to make computers and other gadgets.
if the entire contemporary society isn't necromantic down to its very heart then i have no idea what necromancy isXD

I just wanted to introduce the idea of taxedermy, and the the use of corpses to make make poppets. Necromancy does after all hold ground in ancester worship and voodoo also holds some of the same principals so it seemed to me to be an easy way to find inspiration. I like the idea, but im not sure where to go with it.

I just recieved the book "Nocturnicon", and I must say, there are LARGE sections devoted to necromancy, abyssal magick, and Hadetic magick, which is a term the author coined. Like Hermetic magick, but since it revolves around Hades, he changed the name. There is a nice Hades god-form assumtion ritual (very empowering!) As well as instead of creating a circle to do your work in, you create a sphere powered by the abyss. There is a section on working with demons as well. And as someone had mentioned once before on this board, there is a NICE mythos section, with a nice "Calling of Cthulhu" ritual. So far I only tried out the stuff in the first two sections thought (Abyssal magick and Necromancy/Hadetic magick) so I dont know HOW effective the Cthulhu part is. The author CLAIMS all the rituals work, are powerful, and says NOT to try and banish, as I guess it doesnt work (simonomicon anyone?). Since I neglect banishing after the effect (I ussually ground myself) I dont know if the forces are UNBANISHABLE. But the rituals require very little props, mostly visualization, which is good since I have very little free time at times, so I love'em so far!

A few posts up i said ill let you know how the early necromantic spell would go. It was successfull, but as with many things in magic you could attribute the outcome to other variables. Still, when it came to the end result the only thing i did to bring it to passing was the ritual so... interpret as you will.

Nocturnicon also says that REAL occult groups always make a group egregore.. I instantly thought of Kort'thsalis! He speaks of GOTOS, the egregore of The Brotherhood of Saturn (Germany, 1920s). The brotherhood used him as a godlike energy battery that they could all tap into for ritual perpouses.. no need to RAISE energy, just draw it from GOTOS. The author tried a ritual with GOTOS and says he's STILL effective, and he seems to be close with Lucifer. GOTOS was designed to be a form of Saturn. Kort'thsalis can be OUR GOTOS! VS, is he/she already sat up to be used in such a manner? Or MAYBE we can just has K't ABSORB GOTOS.. I dont know what might happen if such a thing were to happen..

I prettty sure you can use K't however you want ritually, or within the coc. Outside the coc for things like advertisement etc. then venger might be upset, but for this i put my money on that'd be fine.
