What belief, if any, do you have about the power that lies in the Blood?
Does blood play a role in your magical practice, and if so - how exactly?
Is it purely symbolic, or do you believe that there is power within the blood itself?
What source would you use for blood? Animal, human? How is it obtained? Do you contribute your own blood? Donor blood?
Is the gender of the donor important?
Would you consider using a woman's menses blood in ritual?

Well I am a Sanguinarian and have been for about 6 years. I use blood as a drug, but I also see it as the source of life. Remember, without blood we would have no chance of living. I haven't personally used blood in rituals (Except for when I made my first pact with Satan) and haven't used it since.
Animal blood and human blood are both good, and both contain the same energies.
Donor gender? Personally I use female donors, as I believe that the obtaining and drinking of blood is a sexual act in itself.

Think this is a good Question. For me personally I don't think the blood itself is important. When I was Young and daft I briefly experimented with Blood (my own. Virgins are Sooo to hard get. ) Any way what I found is Blood is just another very messy symbol to confuse the young magickian. Blood isn't the life it's Hydraulic Fluid. Life is much more subtle than blood. Though What I have found is during sacrifices of life ,I do occasionally bleed. (not the same thing)

I've been asked to perform a Vampiric wedding ceremony in October next year. Discussing blood in the ritual prompted these questions. Initially, the bride and groom were going to do a ritual cutting, have their blood fall into a chalice and then drink it. Now, it's changed the bride has a low thresh-hold for pain, so now they want to fumble with syringes.
When I had the couple together, she seemed reluctant to have anything to do with the use of actual blood during the ceremony, he is pretty hell bent on it. Apparently, he believes their union will be weakened with the absence of blood.
So we kicked around different ideologies about the use of blood, gender roles in blood donation, and whether human blood is necessary.
VS, animal blood can be obtained without the need for animal sacrifice. I know a butcher, he can provide beef blood for 'effect'.
In all honesty, much of it has me scratching my head. The beliefs that stem from 'blood rites'. I did a blood mysteries study years ago, but its main focus was the use of menses blood, and womanhood - that kind of thing. It, at the very least, gave me a glimpse into the symbolism of blood, and the power people believe it holds. The study went all the way back to primitive people, bleeding into the ground. Mixing blood with the earth, as a healing remedy.
I've watched and studied the symbolic vampirism, where no blood is exchanged as well as blood use. There's a local vampire click here, the donors are called 'Swans', and they are usually female to a male host. I've also witnessed the power struggles between vampire clicks. One group, actually tried to kill this guy - like in the movies. Stake through the heart, and an attempted decapitation. They are in prison now, and he recovered from the attack. The whole thing is just odd.
The power struggle stems from the blood hysteria. Some believe blood use is not necessary, and others find it essential.
It has me wondering, even if only symbolic - does the involvement of blood cause a psychosis among people? In other words, do people get lost in the fantasy and symbolism of blood use or is there really something in the blood that drives people mad?

That is entirely up to you,but if a magician's is worthy of his name he would spill some of his own blood because the source of magick, worship or whatever comes from YOU not another person. I am strongly against animal sacrifice for the sake of sacrifice, the only time i would sacrifice an animal i i was going to eat it later. So I usually perform a human sacrifice through ritual, meaning you can give a sacrifice of killing a human symbolically.
So,blood is the medium for the life force,so when you spill blood, you spell life-force and you direct the energies with your mind.
Ave Satanas!

There is no other power in blood other than the belief there is power. This guy has a blood fetish And if the Woman in question doesn't she should really deeply consider what her life is gonna be like when the day is done. No matter how much she cares for this guy I personally think this is a fairly irreconcilable difference. I really think if I was presiding minister I'd have to consider whether I would want to perform a ceremony where one party has such deep objections!

There is indeed no power in the blood itself, but what gives the blood its power? Belief that emanates from the consciousness is what I was saying.Because YOU are the one who is fueling YOUR magick with your energy.
BUT from my view point the power in blood has to do with a discharge of biochemical energies which is the same phenomena when you see when a person is pain, emotional or physical or something like that. When you are in a state of eldritch calm and peace you retain the energies and save it for a working, when you want to use blood you can use the technique of blood letting or some method similiar like that.
A good example is, and a worse one is the psychic vampire, and the vampire feels "powered" up by a person who is obsessed with the vampire cuz all thoughts are directed to this person including the consciousness and the like. This is the same thing when you do the same for a magic ritual using blood.

Initially, they were to be married this October, but now the wedding has been post-poned until 2010. It keeps getting 'pushed' but she lacks the balls to just tell him her thoughts. I've advised her as much as I'm willing to. I have zero patience for people who don't control their own lives, and live for others.

When it comes to using blood in rituals, I use two different methods. When it comes to making pacts or honoring a specific god/deity/daemon/ect... usually I will offer my own blood obtaining it using a virgin blade. When it comes to rituals I prefer to use a females blood, a virgin is nice but since Memphis, Tennessee isn't really ancient Memphis in Egypt I can't very well go galloping down the street on a horse collecting virgins for rituals, usually I end up using a small vile of blood from whoever may be my current partner. Also, blood is great during sex...but that's a whole different story lol.
