The Banishing Rite of Cthulhu serves a three-fold purpose: - To banish the mind of thoughts that may become obstacles in the ritual
- Cleansing the Aura for ritual
- Expanding your energy outside of yourself
To perform the Banishing Rite do the following: Visualize a sphere of white light above your head. As you touch each of your chakras, visualize the light coming down and over your body. It is not necessary to have your chakras opened to perform this rite, as it partially opens the chakras as you chant the names of the Old Ones. 1. Touch the top of your head (Crown) and chant "Cthulhu" 2. Touch your forehead (third eye) and chant "Dagon" 3. Touch your throat (throat chakra) and chant "Nyarlathotep" 4. Touch your heart (heart chakra) and chant "Yog-Sothoth" 5. Touch the middle of your torso (solar plexus) and chant "Tsathoggua" 6. Touch your navel (navel chakra) and chant "Astaroth" 7. Touch your groin (base chakra) and chant "Shub-Niggurath"

Nice, i think that this can be useful for a lot of people, i often hear people talk about banishings. For some they are a rule.

Yeah the problem is many people don't use banishings, therefore their rituals get screwed around with by unseen forces.
I would love to stay online and chat to you mate, but I have to go to bed. I just got off a plane from Melbourne and I need some rest!

I perceive Yog-Sothoth as crown because it is "coterminous with all time & space", the Gate and the Key to the Gate. YS is the "god" of sorcerers to me, an extra dimensional being with mastery of space and time. Cthulhu is the "high priest" of the gods, thier undieing "heart" in the world. For me, Cthulhu is more involved with emotion and the physical world, the motivator of the "beast" which is the animal part of our nature.

not that it really matters, but i would personally use Cthulhu as the third eye. also, many Mythos devotees see Hastur as more Old One than Dagon.
just my three cents,

I do see what you mean, but in the end its left up to the magician to work the ritual in the way that he sees fit. I've just designed a basic template with which to work with when performing banishings. Venger, I do see what you mean. But since I am working predominantly with Tyson's Necronomicon Tarot, I have decided to use Dagon instead of Hastur. Other gods that could be included are Yig, Bast and Amun.

I love it! and yes, there are plenty of other gods for people to swap with.. whatever your gut tells you when you use it, that is the right way. I tend to butcher or use people's material in ways it's not probaly ment, like using the 3rd angle of destruction for healing (Destroys sickness, see Cthulhu Cult to know what Angle im talking about) Maybe if I did banishings more often I wouldnt have so many astral critters running around.. but I kindof like them, get used to them after awhile.. learn to ignore them when they get out of hand, but gives you something to test your spells on too. I like to practice using astral tendrils to feed off of the little shits. Don't get me wrong, if I am dealing with some serious forces from the netherworld I may, but banishings dont seem to work on the necronomicon beings.. this one may work since it uses beings of the same current..

I have my own banishing ritual but i will admit that banishings are important it creates an opening its not banish evil spirits but it is to banish energies that are not going to work well with your intention all and in all I think its a great ritual
