the first issue should be out tomorrow sometime. if you haven't signed-up yet, there's a button on the main page of the website.
anyways, i've got so much going on these days that it might be nice to find a volunteer editor to run the newsletter. if i do it myself, it's going to be small and quarterly. someone with more time on their hands might be able to create a lengthy newsletter every month.
get in touch if you're interested in The Green Trapezoid editor position.

This is great news. I've been looking forward to the first issue. Having worked with If...Journal for years, I have a bit of experience with Editing, but my main focus was advertising, writing, and gaining support for the publication. Not much in editing, except lending a hand when ever requested I'm afraid.
I can help out when ever I can. I wanted to see the 'flow' of your newsletter. I was thinking of contributing. Are you looking for member contributions?

What would be the general content be exactly, anyway?

damn, this is my busy time with renting apartments! i might not get the newsletter out tonight, might be this weekend. see, this is what i'm talking about... i just don't have the time to run every aspect of our CoC network myself. that's why i'm seeking help.
what's the content? just stuff pertaining to the CoC. and yes, anyone can contribute.
you do so much already, Cora'Sahn, i don't want to overburden you... but as long as it's done well and everyone's happy, i really couldn't care who the editor is. rather than actual editing, i'm really looking for someone to be "the boss" of The Green Trapezoid. someone who is happy to run the thing, make decisions, and take care of whatever is needed.
i'll post again when the newsletter is sent, so people can see for themselves what i started with. Constant Contact is a template-based format which is easy to understand and use. took me seconds to get the hang of it.

I know, it's a lot for one person to manage.
My recommendation is, when you have the time, add an application section to the website. A place for cult members to submit their application for certain aspects of the COC. People can manage it remotely, but it's finding dependable people that's the challenge.
Some 'job' descriptions could be:
Personal Assistant CoC newsletter Editor Web management Forum management Advertising Networking Marketing Head-hunter (seeking members) CoC academic administration (degree program)
Just some ideas, for jobs within the CoC. If you have dependable people that meet the criteria, it would be easy to delegate some of the responsibilities. That way you can meet goals on your time line.
Editing is easy to do part time. Once you get the 'finished draft' you can just email it for review. I can check for content, grammar, layout, etc.

HP, looking at that list and trying to think of things outside of it, i really think i would honestly be best-suited for Marketing, acting as a kind of Cthulhu Ambassador to the Sleeping Public.
i know instinctively when to be blunt, when to use tact, what to say and how to say it, and how best to represent us to the world at large. you saw me on the Yog-Sothoth forums... they were royal fuckwads so eventually i said "fuck it" and told them to blow me in so many words, but that wouldnt happen out there. i know how to exercise control.
do you agree? please consider this, take it as an informal application if you will, and if you think through getting to know me these past months there's something i could do better for us let me know what that is, and for the love of Dread Cthulhu, set me to work!!!

you are very enthusiastic, but can be prickly and quick to temper... which can come off as angry or abrasive for those who don't know you that well. i've seen it happen at least three times in the last couple weeks. this isn't necessarily a bad thing but should be observed, certainly.
rather than a diplomatic ambassador, i see your role as an instigator, provocateur, and rabble-rouser. in my opinion, that is where your talents lie and i would be grateful to have you fulfilling that role amongst cyberspace.
how does that sound?

VSahahaha i knew it!!! i get impatient with stupid people. and when i see people arent getting what im trying to say tactfully, you're right, i tend to go from zero to sixty in .009 seconds and say the most blunt in-your-face shit of all time to them regardless of their feelings or their shaky worldview or if their grandpa is in the fucking hospital or whatever they have going on i have to play nice with them for. B'Lahk'Neeth- Cthulhu Cult Instigator... hmm... DOWNAGE!!!

VS Just received it and I think the format looked good. Looking forward to see how it evolves from here but the main thing is to get more people submitting articles I think. One suggestion I got is that it might be a good idea to archive back issues somewhere on the Cult Of Cthulhu site. For those interested in the article I submitted let me post direct links to the A-I-O calculator and the Temple of Abzu Deck page: A-I-O calculator: www.blackalchemy.net/gematria/Temple of Abzu Deck: www.blackalchemy.net/gematria/cards/Howler I thought VS was sending it over for editing BEFORE disseminating to the COC members. I printed it out and made editing notes, your article needed some work in terms of spelling, sentence structure and grammar. As far as the format is concerned, there were 'Title Place Holders' but the titles were not there. and an Image place holder, with no image. Yeah, VS needs some Editing assistance for sure. VS, The offer is still on the table to send it over to me for editing review, before publishing until a more suitable editor can take it over.

as i mentioned, i really don't have the time and barely have the energy to make The Green Trapezoid look as it should. which is why i sent something out, really just to send it... and make sure it even works. with new technology, no one really knows what to expect or how it will behave.
my own copy that was emailed to me was scrunched on the right side so that i couldn't read the last few words on the right. not sure if anyone else had that problem.
so yeah, it was extremely rough. but now that people can see what the newsletter is like, i want someone to take over and make it their own. let me know if anyone out there has the time, energy, and desire to be responsible for putting out TGT. not forever, but a year's commitment would be nice.

Would have been helpful. I'm actually quite certain I am dyslectic to some degree..a curse or blessing? I go for the last. I had offered to edit before it was posted for reading, but VS didn't take me up on the offer (for shame!) In the future, if you intend to contribute again - you can send it to me for a second set of eyes to catch anything before it goes in for submission. I think it will have a deeper impact if people are focusing on what you have to say, vs. how you are saying it. It was a great article.

(i would be happy to voluteer my services) And also, who would i send contributions to?

I can help out too, until we get some dedicated people on the project.
[slaps hands together] Let's do it!
Do we need to start it from scratch?
If so, here's my idea for the next edition.
1. Cover Art, this can be submitted by cultists each month to showcase their creative expression.
2. Primary opening article, the effects of the mythos. Cultists talk about their personal experiences, effects it's had on their lives and the drive for their aspirations.
3. Poetry/Prose: Ritualism. Submit your ritual expression to include a brief about the purpose of the ritual.
4. Ritual Attire: Submit photos of your props, costumes, ritual space
5. Occultniks: I think we should 'use' the term applied to us. What better way than to make fools of the people that label us so. This section would cover any metaphysics/esoteric ideas. A great place to showcase thoughts and ideas of the cultists themselves. I.e. Howler's Gematria would have fit this category, as well as a Cthulian Kabballah., etc.
6. Venger Speaks: Random thoughts, comments and Q&A session with HP Venger Satanis.
7. Ask a Cultist: A section for taking surveys, opinion polls, and random questions posed to the COC as a collective to answer.
8. Advertisers: A page for cultists to advertise their businesses (art, music, clothing, jewelry, props, etc.) which would eventually open up to paying advertisements once the newsletter becomes more prominent.
9. Links: Each month we can submit links to share which holds relative or interesting info.
|
|
|
Post by amble on Mar 17, 2009 10:25:48 GMT -6
That all sounds like good stuff. I think it might be useful also to have a section where a cultist recommends an artist/writer/film maker/musician etc or a piece of their work that ties closely to the cult. Sort of like a review, but without the critique of it. Unless you want to apply some sort of rating system, like some sort of dreaded, multidimensional Roger Ebert. (six tentacles up)
Also what kind of publication schedule are we thinking? Monthly? Bi-monthly? Bi-centenially?

here's a radical thought i'm just going to throw out there... we could use an actual website or webpages (like Fantastic Horror) for The Green Trapezoid and not use the Constant Contact software.
i'll mention it to the Michael Szul who is working on a plan for a new CoC website, maybe he can incorporate it from the get-go?

I like how this is beginning to sound,
I would love to contribute with art, poetry and pictures or maybe even some text or something once in a while. I can just submit stuff and then someone can use it when/if it fits in.
That would be awesome if he could.
