Maybe you should try and get a wider range of people. Or even make it less about the cult and just a general convention for the gothic/ alternative/ occult etc etc types and have a smaller weight of CoC. That way you could just advertise that the CoC is running this convention, "How awesome are we" type of thing.
but I don't know how you set it up so... maybe what i say is pointless. Plus it would seem its little late for ideas.

I was part of a small, for profit, sci-fi/fantasy convention several years ago. Five of us put up $250 each for the initial funds. It took us 6 months to make our initial money back, doing a convention every other month, in 3 diff cities. (New Orleans, Mobile, and Hattiesburg, MS, on the college campus.)
It helped tremendously that all of us had many contacts in the industry. We printed LOTS of fliers & made about a hundred calls to get vendors.
